Scabies
#1
We are experiencing a bad outbreak of scabies at our house (too many guests?) Does anyone have any folk wisdom or remedies? Is anyone else in the throes of scabies?

I would go see the doctor. I found the following with a quick google search.

Scabies will not go away on its own. You need to use a special cream or lotion that a doctor prescribes. In severe cases, your doctor may also give you pills to take.

Some scabies medicines are not safe for children, older adults, and women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. To avoid dangerous side effects, be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

If you have scabies, you and anyone you have close contact with must all be treated at once. This keeps the mites from being passed back and forth from person to person. You must also carefully wash all clothes, towels, and bedding.

After treatment, the itching usually lasts another 2 to 4 weeks. It will take your body that long to get over the allergic reaction caused by the mites. If you still have symptoms after 4 weeks, you may need another treatment.

In addition to the above, which I support completely, when you launder all your bedding, it needs to be hung out in the sun for at least two hours. Drying on a clothes line works fine... even if you have to "finish up" in the dryer. Has to do with sunlight and urea...

There is over the counter stuff that works, but it is nasty stuff too. No choice though. You will also need to get the lice spray for the furnishings and other surfaces in your house. Crank up the water heater to the max for laundry. Get on it now as they are very contagious. If there are kids in the house, don't send them to school until cured.

Are you sure about that?

I just read the Following and it states:

There is no nonprescription medication that can cure a scabies infestation. Nonprescription lice medications are not strong enough to kill scabies mites. If you think you have scabies, do not use nonprescription products before seeing your doctor because doing so could make it difficult to diagnose your condition.

I would highly suggest Maud that you read that page also.

Good luck.

Scabies are tiny mites that burrow under the skin. They come up every inch or so, then continue their painful journey until every last one is killed

Get to the Dr. ASAP and get some Kwell lotion for everyone! Don't wait.Launder everything. Spray furniture and beds with a Dr. recommended treatment. Scabies can get so bad if not treated.

Been there, Dan

NO not everyone![xx(]

Lindane (Kwell) should not be used to treat:

* Pregnant women or women who are breast-feeding.
* Babies, small children, older adults, and anyone who weighs less than 110 lb (50 kg).1
* People who have seizure disorders or other nervous system problems.
* People who are taking antidepressants or certain other medications that increase their risk of developing seizures from lindane.2
* People who have large areas of broken skin, open sores or areas that are inflamed, or crusted (scabby) skin.
* People who have impaired immune systems, as from HIV infection.2

Kwell and its generic equivalents are commonly used in children under 110 lbs under a physician's supervision.

See the doctor.

an ole home remedy from the old country. Get yourself some 'Bed Bugs', they will take your mind off the "Scabies". If that doesn't work for you, then yes 'Quell' is your best over the counter option..

I believe that Kwell is only available by prescription.
