I know I have heard Pam refer to them a few times...anyone know where to get them? I think they would be fun to have and also would like to know about other "uses" for them besides making sour things taste sweet for a couple hours.

The Plant it Hawaii sale HAD them, but we also purchased one from a Pahoa nursery at the BIAN sale in Hilo (I think it was Fruit Lovers -
www.fruitlovers.com )
We also have one that is growing from a seed I planted a little over a year ago from a seed from a Bill Martin fruit. These guys are VERY slow growing, but will fruit in a couple of years (& about a foot tall) so I have a little while until I have small miracles to share. They do make a good houseplant, and do fruit indoors, but not as prolific.

Slow growing does not do it justice. They are VERY VERY VERY SLOW growing. But the little berries are great fun. I bought one at Garden Exchange about a year and a half ago, It has a few new leaves but other that that I think its the same size.

A few tips for growing it from the Rarefruit group:
It likes a lot of water (should not be a problem most of the time in Puna!), even standing in water if in a pot.
It likes acid soil.
I had seedlings that were not doing much of anything and the new leaves were starting to blacken at the tips and get progressively smaller. I watered the pot with diluted vinegar (2 tablespoons/gallon of water) and the plants really perked up and the new leaves were larger and healthier.

I just saw a plant at Walmart tonight. I believe there was only one and boy was it expensive! The price escapes my memory but I want to say it was over $60 for what didn't seem like that big of a pot.

PlantItHawaii has 8-12" plants for $15 (3 gal bag) (if you know a grower or go to one of their open sales) & Fruitlovers has gallon size for $11 at their Pahoa nursery

On this, I gotta credit Bill Martin. He graciously allowed us to pick yummy lilikoi & then gave us a mind blowing tour of all of the trees & plants he cares for! The miracle berry was soooo awesomely weird that I had to plant the seed & it sprouted into the ittyest bittyest treelet.... when I saw a slightly bigger one at eh BIAN sale, I grabbed it!
