Parks & Rec. Director - Ms. No

I would agree, if the spot is directly on the bus route(not a mile down) then it would be fair! As long as it fronts 130, then it would be community!

The park in HPP, once it is built, will be available to all citizens and visitors. As far as it not being fair that the park won't be on the bus line, I am sure that there are other parks in Hawaii County that are not on bus lines. We would very much like the bus to come into HPP, but that will take some more work on our part, and there are people here pushing for it. Who knows? By the time the park gets constructed, Hele On might be in HPP. The expansion of the bus system has been progressing with uncharacteristic speed for these parts and should continue to do so as fuel prices rise.

Jerry, so now the new pavment is in so far, the county will dedicate the roads, and include a park in the package! In feet , yards or miles, how far from 130 is the playground?
and why couldn't a bus dip to to that park, from 130? It would be a county dedicated road! The entire property value will spike just because of the roads! More revenue for the county, better services for your people! If it got enough use, a stoplight and intersection could be added, adding even more value to the region!

Gtill, at one meeting I attended, a Park Committee member mentioned that in the negotiations with the county there had been some discussion of turning Makuu over to the them as far down as the proposed park. When I pointed out that this was a "poisonous" proposition for every county administration for the last 30 years, she said, "Well it was just discussed. Nothing formal." At a later meeting, this was not mentioned, and I forgot to ask about it. It would set a precedent for accepting roads in the "substandard subdivisions" which is something they insist would bankrupt the county. If, however, the road in question was upgraded to their specifications, it might be a different story.

To answer your question about how far into HPP the park would be, the spot is at 16th and Makuu, which I would guess to be a little under two miles down from 130, or halfway to the ocean. I should also mention that 16th is scheduled to be done in the current paving project, which would make access to the park easier for some folks on the far side of HPP.

Cheers,
Jerry

I've lived in Hi since 1964, and this is the best yet! It's how things go! I think it's time for the HPP special property tax to cover their special dedicated parks, without the riff-raff from the outlying farm regions!

Politics is the art of doing precisely the opposite of what you propose, gtill. If government expenses were redistributed strictly according to where the revenues came from, then a simple GIS computer program could replace the entire budgeting process. That's what pork-barrel earmarks, special-interest lobbyists, and smoke-filled rooms are all about. Disgusting, but true.

The Declaration of Independance says that we are all endowed with certain inalienable rights, among these blah, blah, blah, but a "fair" distribution of government services is not one of them, unfortunately.

I'm being cynical and sarcastic, but there is truth in what I'm saying. The non-sarcastic answer, for me, is to VOTE, participate in meetings, write letters to the editor, etc., precisely as Mr. Tucker is advocating. Becoming actively involved in the politics, particularly at the local level, is the best way to bring light to the dark and filthy shadows of politics. Then watch the cockroaches scurry away into their cracks and corners. They can't stand it when they're exposed to the light of public scrutiny and the fresh air of new ideas.

Aloha! ;-)

Mgeary, all good valid points! Most of my posts are sarcastic, and that little piece explains why!
But then, if the county wanted to add a new place for concert goers, could they not vote for a public bandstand on the park grounds, rock concerts in HPP, mabe a liquor vendor too!
Give HPP residents a chance to pay for their park and pavillion!
