Gardeners Cooperative?
#51

When in season I've got purple passion and Samoan breadfruit and other crops and, I'm expanding rapidly because I agree that we're going to have a food production problem in the future due to two reasons (1) The proability that inflation will continue and (2) A population base which has, for the most part, not taken advantage of a more or less universal climate here on the Big Island which is capable of producing almost anything We're seeing food shortages right now on the island. I'm in Black Sands and there's some really needy families here right now and I'm seeing real signs of looming poverty right here in Puna and elsewhere ... just look around. I'm really glad you mentioned that culls etc. be given to the needy since that shows where your heart is. Also, as a further function of such a mobile endevour, please consider not limiting your vehicle to food only but also, to some degree, a selection of plants which can be traded and shared with other gardeners when you arrive at their permacultures since the more diverse our gardens are the better.

I'm with you completely, thinking the wolf is much nearer the door than many think.

I suggest we whine our way into getting Jim and Carey in Keaau to let us meet at their house one day a week for two hours. Example: Every Tuesday afternoon from 3-5 PM. Then you just bring what you have and trade for what is available.

Otherwise, I am unable to participate by guaranteeing what I can make available on a weekly basis. I travel and will be in mostly OUT all summer....

Just another day in P A R A D I S E !!

Nobody needs to guarantee anything in the slightest! It's simply sensible to do a little planning at this point so we don't all show up with a pickup full of papayas and stare at each other. Look for needs, wants, and throw another $1.50 pack of seed on there ground. Very simple all in all. No panics!

Any other spearfishers out there that might be able to add a bit of protein to the menu? I'm sure the 25 lb Kala I nailed last week would have brought a head of lettuce or two.

Aloha,everyone!
Sorry,I am a little bit off topic, but at this time I don't have a produce to exchange. But for those folks who will have extra after all exchanges and other sales,I would like to have a permanent (if possible)source of some fruits, vegetables, fish, eggs, cow milk and cheese.I respect hard working people and their right to sell by the market price.I am not sure I can afford it.But if you have extra you can sell for less,please,e-mail me.I am planing ahead,so prices will change,so if you use percentage, like #..% less than on the farmers market, that would be more accurate.
Fish, eggs, avocado, cherries, papaya ,peaches, blueberries and other berries- on the top of my list.I'll come to your place, unless you suggest otherwise.
I hope I didn't offend anyone.I thought some folks might use little extra money.I'll be working in Hilo and living in Sea View. Most likely will relocate late this fall.
Thank you in advance.

Not a spear fisher myself... however, have ohana that Hunt and Fish so Protein hasn't been much of a problem.

Problem with "protein" at cooperatives...is keeping the product fresh if it hasn't already been cooked. (I would assume this may be a reason you don't see that much of it at the Farmers Market)

Fish goes bad quickly as well as other meats unless kept refrigerated or frozen.

Bringing it forward... any progress on plans? I am in California and will be fairly unavailable all summer except for the last three weeks of June. I planted some green beans before I left but figure the rains have probably demolished them without me around to keep an eye. We should have choke lettuce by then though... woo hoooo

So what is going on for that? If anyone is coming to the deconstruction weekend at the Lamont's, we will happily share our supply of lettuce, green beans if there any and the freezer of goat and wild boar.

Bring your small coolers!

Aloha... Pam
