I would like to thank the Puna CDP Steering Committee for doing a great job in gathering everyone's mana'o throughout Puna and coming up with the final draft of the Puna CDP.
The most important part of the Puna CDP is "Keeping Puna Pono". The CDP provides great solutions to long standing problems that make sense.
The developers and business community are not happy with its passage and are trying very hard to delay our CDP. The Kona CDP is their preference for passage first because the first CDP to pass and entered into law by ordinance will set the precedent for all other CDP's to follow.
The Puna CDP needs some minor adjustments but overall it is "PONO". I suppport the Puna CDP and the next round will be the most important step for it to become law....going before the County Council. Your help is needed to convince our Councilwoman to change her position and support the Puna CDP.

Is there some reason to think that Councilwoman Naeole is opposed to the passage of the Puna CDP?

Well, well. Thanks for that, Kale and Rob.
I read the Councilwoman's testimony and responses to Commissioners' questions.
Obviously, the Councilwoman is in touch with the grassroots in her community. Within the PCDP, there are some darned good ideas.
However, as the Councilwoman indicated, many were the times that the community had to fight to get their input back into the plan and remove other stuff that originated from outside the PCDP public-noticed information gathering.
In the end, by means of excessive wasting of time, trust, and patience on the part of the community, many good things are in the PCDP. Lots of good stuff from the community got canned without adequate justification. Lots of other stuff that cannot be traced to any of the public-noticed PCDP information gathering process got put in

After looking at my last post, I thought I should be clear that my appreciation, of course, is for you having provided the links and made it easy for me to go straight to the testimony and read for myself. I realize you were just doing the right thing on your site here and not pushing anybody's barrow.

I'm not sure if you are supporting the Puna CDP or not. Are you?
I sat through the last 2 Planning Commission meetings in Kona and Hilo that amounted to at least 20 hours not including drive time to give testimony and learn the outcome. I'm sure you are aware that the Puna CDP was amended to include all working groups papers and documents and made a part of the Puna CDP as an appendix so as to provide clarity and intent of all of the working groups. Should questions arise in the future there will be a written record.
The only other groups I saw opposing the Puna CDP were representatives of Shipman Inc and Ulupono developers. Everyone else who came to the meetings were grassroots people from Puna, Kona, Ka'u and Volcano. The Hawaiians at the Planning Commission meetings were myself and members of the Kanaka Council.....I think we would qualify as grassroots, don't you think? Or you may have a different definition of grassroots....if you do maybe you can let me in on it?
The Planning Commission approved this amendment and sent it to the County Council for approval as an ordinance. Or did you want it only as a resolution?
I know you will research the amended CDP and if you are in favor of the Puna CDP please convince those in charge (council members) to vote in favor of the Puna CDP.

I was dealing with an SMA issue at Thurs PC Meeting so I didnt get to see results of friday's PC meeting.

It is listed on the right side of the page as Planning Commission Public Hearing #3 on the Puna Community Development Plan.
It may take a week or two for the oral testimony to be transcribed and posted.
