Home Security
#1
I'm looking for info on Home security systems.
Anyone know of a store that sells them locally? In Hilo that is.

Any systems in perticular that you would recommend?
I'm looking for a good Hardwired system.

Mahalo in advance for any responses.

Most hard wired security systems are sold and serviced by alarm companies. Components are available ebay or from do it your self companies on the internet. I use Ademco they are part of honeywell. Moose also being a good line and there is one more top brand that escapes me right now.

I built my system around this touch pad

http://www.security.honeywell.com/hsc/pr...34176.html

for retrofit internal wiring ....4 6 and 8 foot spring steel (they flex around tight spots) extended drills available

be careful.... one of my first projects I watched, as the drill bit exited an antique picture frame hung in the homeowners hall. My buddy the company owner thinking the bit was dead center in the wall on his way to the attic

Thanks for the info Bullwinkle.
This touchpad looks cool.
I didn't see any pricing. I'll keep looking.
Also I didn't see this touchpad in any of the kits.
How many hardwired zones does it have?
My place is small. 3 doors, 5 windows.
I don't have drywall yet so the wired install will be easy.

I would look at the vista p20 (100$ or so) panel a nice match for this ez programing touch pad .... I think the pad 80$ from flea bay. Passive infra red detectors at 30 or so hard wire trips at 5$ each ... alarm horn back up battery another 50$ for the pair and a LOT of wire will put in a good basic system. Add your own "goodies" to custom taylor the install

If you can get a good cheap basic "manual" pad to toss aside for later use with the board get it.

There a few situations where you can lock yourself out of the panel while doing the initial programing. An otherwise pain in the behind manual key board will allow you in "the back door" to reset to default.

For that same reason I wont keep one in the loop after the install - but handy to have at 20$ or so

Might also want to check with Russ at pulama11@awshi.com for a professional consult on installing a home security system in Puna. Experienced, friendly, familiar with local options.

Yes, he came well-recommended and has done security systems for houses all over the Big Island, including some humongous places over on the Kona side. We have met with him a couple times at our house site and have also enjoyed chatting over blueprints and lunch in Pahoa; he is doing the home security system on our place currently in construction. Since the house is in construction I'll have to let you know later how all the bells, whistles, motion detectors, video cameras, and so on turned out, but so far our experience has been positive. He even passed along the savings to us when the price of some components dropped subsequent to the quote. Cannot say I've had that happen with many subcontractors.
