Latest Saddle Road Phase Awarded

Road and Highway Builders LLC of Reno Nevada was officially awarded the latest Saddle Road reconstruction phase between m.m 11-19 on September 4th, 2009.

The reason why the Kona side isn't being done now is because a Supplemental EIS had to be done. The US Army asked for the alignment to be changed due their purchase of 30,000 acres of Parker Ranch land. The SEIS should completed later this year. Then the design for this phase can commence.

The next Hilo phase's design between m.m 6 and 11 is 15% complete. Thus its likely this phase will be funded next.

As far as the Kona side, the DPW is going to resurface between m.m 44-48 in thenear future.

The m.m 11-19 phase has among the highest accident rates in the state. Thus I'm happy they are going to reconstruct this part next.
