Last time I looked at Google Earth, HPP was just a blur. Now it's very sharp, but does anyone have any idea of the date of the picture(s)?
Judging from the state of my back yard, and the absence of a nearby building site, it must be at least a year or two ago, I think.

I think the photo is about 18 months old as my garage is only a slab in the latest shot. HEY! what happened to the smiley faces?

I Google my property in Puna Beach Palisaides and the same car is always parked in front of the neighbors house (okay, so I can't swear it is the same car, but there is always the same blob on the side of the road in front of his house.) I think the picture must be over a year old judging by building activity in the area. Does any one know for sure?

In Google Earth 4.3 (available since April 2008, I think) the year will show up in the status bar (where long. and lat. are) when the data is available and you zoom in close enough. This is the case for some pictures of Honolulu, but not where I am in HPP.
Otherwise, you have to deduce it from what's in the picture. Each picture can have a different date and it's not always easy to spot the transition.

And some people play a little game in GE to try to figure out the date of the imagery based on construction projects, etc.
It's a shame that the newly updated imagery quits right at Kapoho. All of Puna is freshly detailed in GE, except for the last mile or so on the Eastern tip. Where's my frowny face?

I like the Microsoft Live Virtual Earth Maps much better. They seem to be January 2007. These are not Satellite images but Aircraft pictures.
