Surfing

I have always wonder why there is so much stink eye on the islands and why local surfers think they own the waves! Last time I checked its a free country and no one owns the ocean or beaches in Hawaii.

For locals to even think they own certain surf spots is wrong and they have gotten away with it for too many years.

I guess when mostly all you do is hang around the beach and fiqure working for a living is not the way to go you could develop a poor attitude to "your spot" and dont want others to even try to enjoy it.

Kinda like fishing and hunting spots in Alaska.

Oh, I almost forgot: Andrew if your not happy with want others write take it to them personally by their e-mail. The last thing people want to read is some personal dialog between two people. Lets keep this site positive and keep away from "cyper stink eye". You do have a cool website though!

Stink Eye stems from Jealousy.

Local surfers .... that's not just a "Hawaii" thing... it happens around the world.

As explained above by what happened to the Oahu surfer.

Heck... I've gotten plenty "Cyber Stink Eye" since I moved in on "the cyber community of Punaweb"

Sometimes it takes awhile to get used to the newcomer...(even though my roots in Hawaii are probably longer then many of you)

Don't blame this surfing attitude on Hawaii locals necessarily.... it happens in all walks of life.

People hate newcomers no matter where you are at! [:0] Whether it be Punaweb, the Ocean, the beach, or whatevers...

I can't find it. It might have to do with the fact that they have a new "online" server or something. [V]

I even google reader'd it... couldn't find a feed. [V]

That was a disturbing video on two counts: One - that it happened and Two - that people were filming the incident. But, why did that blonde guy keep coming back for more? What was he trying to prove? Is there something to be learned from all this? Maybe I should not surf, just sit on the sand and watch. I guess the only bright spot (if you can call it that) was that guns didn't come out and the blonde guy gets popped. In Kansas City, they don't fight with fists, they fight with guns.
I'm sorry, but that was pretty disgusting to watch.

You know 8 Fingers,

I too thought it was very disturbing when I first viewed it.

This video has been circulating for a long time. On Youtube it's been viewed 70,000 + times.

After having several discussions with people that were actually at this incident....

I have concluded that the dude did deserve to get his ass kicked.

I mean come on... he didn't even listen to the lifeguard who was telling him to get out of the water.

Damon, I agree. If it was me, I would have been outta there after that first fight. I'm a big guy and will fight if needed, but it has to be for a good reason. The blonde guy did not show proper respect, IMO. OTOH, looking at those two fighting reminds me of how animals act guarding there "turf". The other surfer must have had some wrestling, looked like a classic "take down". (I used to wrestle in H.S.)

Regarding the Utube video: The guy was an obvious idiot. The others were ignorant animals. Are we going to now celebrate brutality and rule by the biggest or meanest? What happened to civilization and the rule of law? I loved the way all of the civic minded people stepped forward to de-escalate the situation. BTW, the leg sweep is a common street fighting move. It negates any standard boxing training by the opponent.

RIP Bud Browne

....His film credits include “Goin’ Surfing,” “Hawaiian Surf Movie,” and nearly a dozen others, but he also shot footage for the surf classic “Big Wednesday.”
