Aloha y'all....

No, my son isn't with me, he is enjoying summer with my mom back on the mainland, finishing up the little league stuffs...his team just won district and now he's going to regional. After regional, state...we'll see how far they go. He doesn't want to come until that's done.

Thanks all who sent offers of help, I'll be able to sort something out soon! :o)

Aloha Maggie,

My goddaughter's mother had some sage words of advice about how she made her decisions: She always does what is best for the children, born or unborn. She thinks of them first and what is best for them. Everything falls into place after that. That is why she moved to a rural town 500 miles from me. She hated leaving her friends, but wanted to be close to her mother when she had her first child, and now that her two children are growing up. I imagine she would think your current situation is untenable and requires a quick change. Much aloha to you and good luck in making that change.

They're at it again. The tweakers are tweaking and the smell of airplane glue is permeating the house. We bought an electric fan yesterday and things got a lot better. We placed it near the window for ventilating the room.

Monday we'll have a car and go look at places. I thought we were going today but it seems we have a couple days to go. I can't wait! Too bad Enterprise rent-a-car has nothing for us until then.

My friend hasn't kicked the losers out. She left last night. Her family had a 4th of july outing, going fishing overnight somewhere. She wanted to invite us but there wasn't room in the boat. So she left us here all night alone with those guys. Great...

She'll be back later today and hear from me. I'm leaving monday. I've been offered a couple places to rent which I'll be going to see monday...so if one is available immediately we'll just move in...or if not there are other options.

maggie, I'm sure I don't need to remind you that you DO have a child staying with you, your unborn child. It should not be exposed the the fumes.

Enterprise is not the only car company. I can hardly believe all cars in town are rented. I would get out today. People around here set off fireworks like mad today and tonight, and fireworks are a bad mix with stupidity and meth use and tweaking. Very bad.

Your friend has little common sense leaving her property to such poor caretakers, but that's her problem.

Why don't you take the bus, go to Hilo and pick up a car, and go stay somewhere else, enjoy the festivities in Hilo. There is also Wild Ginger Inn if Dolphin is full. Just do not stay at Waiakea Villas which has too many drugees living there.

Glad I got your attention.

Sorry I had to do it like that.

Bless Maggie and her yung'n, not me.

Here are reviews of Hilo hotels and if you look at the top of the list you'll see there are two other tabs, one for B&B and one for Specialty Lodging.

Get out of there; a holiday is the worst time to be around iceheads, although it's never a good idea.

I feel strongly that if people are going to move here, especially when they haven't set it up properly by making repeat visits in advance, that you have to be ready to reach into your pocket and spend a little money to put yourself out of such dangers.

Yes, Puna offers people a chance to live a frugal, non-consumer lifestyle, but I have watched enough people come here who think they can adopt the lifestyle on Day One, and it doesn't work a lot of the time. Renting a car and staying at a clean safe place, as if you were a tourist even, gives you a transition. You need mobility here. I'm very surprised that you didn't rent a car when you flew in.

That old adage, pennywise and pound foolish, applies well in times of great transition. Deprive yourself of resources to save some money, and you limit what you can discover.
Personally, I would be on the internet, on Priceline, checking for car rentals in Hilo, right now. Then I would do what is necessary to get to the rental agency. I would NOT wait until Monday just because Enterprise will come pick you up and the rest won't.

It's the weekend, which means the best rates are available for car rentals.

Just out of curiosity, I checked the rental car availability. If you pick up this afternoon, all the agencies have cars, Alamo the lowest at $44 a day saying you return Monday. If you pick up tomorrow, most are sold out, the exception being possibly National AND ... Enterprise (pickup at noon, $46 a day).

This is online availability.
Better prices might apply; this was just a quick look at Priceline. A lot of people like Hotwire better, and I always check the car company sites individually and look for specials, before committing.

Maggie, you are not stuck for the weekend as of right now, but if you don't act quickly, you probably will be.
