Disclaimer - making it easier
#1
I recently started to add "disclaimer" to my posts.
I noticed,Janel did it too on the funny remark on Kahunascott.
I am sure there are other people doing so.
May be it is not a bad idea.Just to avoid unnecessary confrontation,when someone gets upset as a result of pure misunderstanding.
It's not WHAT you say,it's HOW you say it.
Though for most of the time you can recognize mean intention through the nice words and vice versa,but depending on how attentively a person read the post sometimes misunderstanding comes out of the blue.
Like recently,I was joking that it was not a good idea to twist Carey's arm to participate in some event because she has Jimbo( Rambo?).
I like jokes,because it helps to deal with a lot of stuff,far from being funny. Anyway,all of a sudden I got a pretty serious response.
It was OK,polite and such,but...
I have to respond that I was JK.No big deal.But I've seen worse recently.
Of course,a disclaimer might not be true or sincere.
If the forum troll will post a disclaimer "I am not trolling" ....

Well,it's not a remedy for peace on the forum,but might be helpful.What do you think?

Disclaimer: I did not invent the term "disclaimer" and not the first to use it on this forum.)):

Disclaimer: The following is not intended for anyone:

The "Smilies" if used properly should help get your thoughts across even better.

I think using a disclaimer is a waste of space. [Wink] (Wink)

Here are the simple smilies spelled out a little more directly:

[Smile] = Smile
[Big Grin] = Big Smile
[8D] = Cool
[:I] = Blush
[:p] = Tongue
[}Smile] = Evil
[Wink] = Wink
[:o)] = Clown
[B)] = Black Eye
[8] = Eight Ball
[Sad] = Frown
[8)] = Shy
[:0] = Shocked
[Sad!] = Angry
[xx(] = Dead
[|)] = Sleepy
[:X] = Kisses
[^] = Approve
[V] = Disapprove
[?] = Question

I'd be very carefully in throwing that troll word around.

Frequently, someone who has been labelled a troll by a group may seek to redeem their reputation by discrediting their opponents, for example by claiming that other members of the group are closed-minded, conspirators, or trolls themselves.

I disagree. In this case, I did include an emoticon, to show I was joking, but Scott's friends might still have taken offense that "someone" was making fun of his physical appearance. By adding that he's my brother, I indicated that I am the only person on this Forum in a position to make that particular joke.

Exactly my point.When Kani mentioned that it should be a good idea to do a background check on landlords and I said that we will start with her first(she is a landlord),I knew that it will be OK with Kani.
But for someone this joke might sound rude if they don't know that me an Kani can exchange that kind of jokes.
I bet some forum troll starts screaming "personal attack".
Then some folks with good intentions will start defending Kani.

I was really tempted to post the same joke about "poor calf".
I guess being a very nice guy Kahunascott would have forgiven me.
But this kind of joke is more appropriate for close friend or family.
Those smiles are one- dimensional and not good in every case.

SCARY... I'm a mass murderer wanted in Kansas with Pale Skin and a messed up grill for teeth [Wink]

I've got a common last name[Wink] [:o)] I feel sorry for those that have the same last name as me [Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin]

Anyrate, those that do know me... know this guy that is wanted in Kansas certainly isn't me[^]

Well then there was the other person listed, a Police officer in Cali[8D]

And then way down on that google sheet... you find my old stuff I did with my last job...

And if you look really hard, you can find my old website from when I went back to college... however, that link doesn't work anymore.
