All of Puna is a crime ridden area.

Can you please tell me which districts you think are more safe then others?

The property crimes are only increasing as more and more people are facing financial crisis here.

I think Ainaloa is relatively safe compared to many other neighborhoods.

My Brother-In-Law lives off on Woodrose Ave. off Ainaloa Blvd. for the last 16 years and has never had a problem.

Hey... when your wife was an effing classmate with one of the accused... you hear about it a lot. []

I still say all of Puna is dangerous relatively speaking.

Dark lights, Low Unemployment, Drugs, etc.... we have all read about many of the break ins...

here is something from 2002. []

Police said the shooting occurred Jan. 7, 2002, when the driver of a sedan traveling on the Kea'au-Pahoa Road in the Kapoho area was shot by the driver of a van that had pulled alongside the car. The victim, who was 45 at the time, was wounded in the left arm, and a second shot grazed his chest.

I'm just trying to decriminalize Kathy's statement of Ainaloa being so dangerous....

It's not just one area in particular.

We all need to be vigilant for a safer PUNA in general. [8D]

And looking back seventeen years is not being vigilant.
Is life safer in Honolulu? Houston? Chicago? Boston?
You don't have to dig back seventeen years for a horror
story in any of those locales.

Relatively speaking I think Puna is probably average to low average.

One reason I say this is that the State of Hawaii is rather generous with it's EBT cards.
Most of our small time crime is not desperation crime or gang driven crime, it's rural boredom crime.

These kinds broke into Paul's Garage and stole some Turkey Jerky. Real smart.
Broke into the Pawn Shop and stole two cheap wrist watches.

Are we supposed to load our shotguns over this and lay awake all night?

I guess it's also because this was THE BIG STORY when I first moved to Hawaii... and so it does stick very close to me.

The key here, is to let people know that danger exist everywhere you look.

If you live in paranoia.... it will destroy yah.

I guess I also have had a personal bad experience in Kapoho that wasn't really crime related.... however, I did have a very bad experience down there that has left a bad taste in my mouth about the area, in which I shouldn't reflect on the entire area.

Getting scammed by a vacation rental that I had set up is a whole different subject.

The key is... Crime in Puna is increasing. We need to let all new people moving here aware of it.

Hawaii is not always the "paradise" envisioned. It does take a few realists every once in a while to say something that may offend a newcomer at times.

I often get mis-confused as coming down on people because I'm informing them of something. Wish that wouldn't happen... as most of the time, I'm just passing along something I have learned.... Or mislearned [:o)]
