Guess you will just have to go to Bear's instead! [Smile]

Too far away from the books. There is something about having a coffee shop surrounded by books that's appealing to me. Actually I'm hopping Seattle's Best will move in when Starbucks moves out. I believe the Kona Borders has it set up that way.

There was an article about Starbucks in the Pacific Business News two weeks ago. They are not doing well in the US but they are doing very well in Asia. The article said they will be opening many new stores there while they are closing some in the US.

Guess folks can't afford to pay $17 a gallon anymore for mediocre coffee

True, importing coffee to Hawaii just seems weird. Plus the stuff is way too expensive and a lot of it is over roasted.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a local business to step in.

Hilo doesn't need Starbucks. Bear's is great (been there twice this week already), and the drive-through place on Kilauea (just cruisin'?) has mighty fine java and sandwiches, too.

It would be nice to see the people that had the concession at Boarders before SB come back. They had good coffee and sandwiches and at a better price.

wow, this makes me sad, not that there won't be a Starbucks, but that the concession is gone again. It sucked during the transition between Borders and Starbucks.

Borders is my favorite place to hang out ... I've been to Bears and Kopekope but they didn't do it for me. It's the books and magazines that do it, plus there's a really nice group of people who've been hanging out there for a long time.

Sniff.

PS. I could care less if they'd close the one over by Quiznos. Jeez, dumb choice.
