My favorite pet - your story

Thank you for your story,topograph.
It doesn't matter if our furry "kids" are smart or not,for us they are the best.
Good luck on your future puppy!

ah, topograph! so sad you are without! but, i'm glad you got those to dogs. i bet you were a great parent to both of them. you didn't mention what happened to the cats?

well, i can empathize with you regarding your loss. on monday night, i lost my lovely fur baby, star (a cat), from renal failure. we tried everything but it was her time to go--almost 20 years old and just so beautiful. she let out the most sorrow-filled mew i have ever heard. she always slept with me, but i had to leave her on the floor because she was unable to make it to the litter box. i gently stroked her while she took her last breath.

Sorry about your loss Kani-lehui. But twenty is a long life for a cat, my oldest was 17 yrs. It sounds like your cat couldn't have had a better home.. peace.

Tiggy (Ferril cat)
Picca (Ferril cat)
Aschi (ashi)(Ferril cat)
Snowbell (Ferril cat)
Crystal (Oro uno doc) Horse
Tanner (One tan doc) Horse

But the late Cody(14) and Chelsea(12)(aka black lassie)were the true loves of my life, man I miss em. Chelsea saved my a ss up in Demmings New Mexico one late night/early morning while checking into a seedy motel on the Hwy. No tears dave!!

Ok, I have some really good stories about Chelsea but the funniest story is about the day that Cody decided to take a swim..

See Cody didnt care much for swimming whereas Chelsea was a pure water dog. So Cody would always stay up on the beach with my wife and I as Chelsea was swimming out in the kelp and chasing birds as we walked the beaches of N. County San Diego.

One day as we walked the beach with Cody just out in front of us and Cheslea doing her best to learn how to body surf, out of no where comes this pit bull and man he hit Cody on a dead run and immediatly locked onto him. I might need to mention that Cody was a humungas Golden Retriever. More than one Vet had said he was the biggist Golden they had ever seen before, weighing in at 110+ lbs. He was mamouth but sooo layed back..

Anyway, so this pit bull is locked on Cody but he's kinda high and nearer the top of ole Codys neck.. Soo Cody who's still on his feet is trying to shake this relentless, as they are, pit bull off of him. Of course I'm freakin out and trying to get in position to kick the pit (sorry beachboy) when Big Cody decides this was a good day to take a swim.. And off he went right out in to the waves with the pit bull in tow. Cody's swimming along like a listing sail boat when finally the pit who can only breath through his nose, which is going in and ou of the water, has had enough and releases.

He's honking and trying to get back to shore when out of the side of my vision comes Chelsea at full steam. Now this lab could get a toy off the bottom of the shallow end of a pool. Just about the time the pit bull is getting to where he can stand up she hits him and he goes back down and she's on top and he's under water and she's doing her damdest to pull him back out into the surf. This pits had enough and he's just trying to survive meanwhile Cody is waiting on the next set to surf in on.

I'm yelling at Chelsea who finally lets up. The pit bull's owner is trying to get his dog and actually cussing me.. My friend from dallas is yelling at him.. Oh well the rest is just stupid human stuff. But yep.. we'll always remember the day that Cody decided to take a swimm... The End

Dam.. I miss them two..

mahalo davem for the great story about chelsea and cody and for your empathy. in the meantime, i just found out that i can pick up my lovely star's ashes tomorrow. yep. had her cremated and will make a shadow box including pics of her and the rest of my fur babies. i know it's weird, but i did the same for my beloved beagle, whitney, who passed away 2 years ago at, yes, 16 years old.

Not so weird, both of my pups were cremated and ashes spread from the top of the Kole-Kole pass (would have spread them at sea, but Topo hated the water so much he would detour around rain puddles- he was laughed out of the black lab society by his peers).

Dave,I didn't know that you are a proud Dad of such a big family!
Wonderful story- "The day Cody decided to take a swim".
(BTW - hi from the N.County, see you on the BI)

Kani - my condolences again.Waiting for the pictures.

David (the other one)- Flash is so cute!
What's up with the white tip of the nose becoming black?
I got my boxer when he was 3.I never got a chance to see him as a baby.I am jealous!

LOL... yeah I guess we're just three wierdos cuz Cody and Chelsea as well as Jazz and Cessy (two cats) all have a special place on a shelf in our home office.. Funny how attached we get to those lil fellas.. Over the years I've kinda got where I don't trust people that don't keep critters.. I know that sounds bad but even people I've known that lived on boats had cats.

Thanks Hope, The place where that story happened was the beach between Dal Mar and Solana Bech by the track. Later on we lived in Encinitas. Some times I miss N. County but there was just to many humans there [8D] dave

It doesn't sound bad,Dave.I can "sniff" the dog lover from afar. That's how I knew you are a good guy before you told your pet story.
About cats on the boats.I've seen one having a walk on the leash)):

hope: will send the pics soon.

davem and topograph: maybe we're not so weird at all?! ;p i had to put one of my first cats down due to kidney cancer. don't know what became of her and don't want to know. another one of my cats, fatcat, a 20lb hefty boy, was buried in/at my kapolei, o'ahu home. wondering? when i sell the home, do i have to disclose said burial? [:0]

in the meantime, we have 3 other cats and 4 dogs--all adopted. we won't add anymore to our family until we make it to the big island. i'm afraid my oldest dog, 18 year old beagle/besenji mix, won't make it as we have app. 2 years to go before the move.
