Stick with the ACE I have used it alot for different kinds of animals. If your used to giving your own shots you can do it yourself.

We brought over 2 cats and 2 dogs, both boxers, in Aug 05. Follow the previous advice on the crate. Dogs actually get to like crates, they become their dens, a place they feel safe. Jack, our male boxer also suffered from separation anxiety and the crate was the best place for him. Cats are a totally different story. When the TSA agent attempted to put her hand in the female cat's crate for the HNL to Hilo flight, there was a loud, unpleasant sound from within the crate. Agent looked at me quizzically and I told her she was on her own, but I won't put my hand in there. Both cats and dogs made the trip without incident. I don't recall the name, but our vet also sold a scent (pheromone) that was supposed to have a calming effect. As I recall it was to mimic a nursing mother. Seemed to work. For some reason, our boxers have always seemed to like my socks more than T shirts. BTW, our animals had a L-O-N-G travel day, leaving our house in GA at 3AM and arriving in Hilo about 7:30PM. When they awoke the next morning, you'd never suspect the ordeal of previous day. Best of luck and don't worry.

Daniel
good article, The only problem with it is. In that article your dealing with a dog that has issues with going to the vet, obviousily that animal had a bad fist time expeirience going to the vet. I agree its not the way to deal with that sitiation. As far as giving an animal ace for a plane trip. I dont want my dog to be unaware of his or her surroundings, my expeirience with ace, my dogs curl up and take a nice long nap. One of my favorite side effects of Ace is their is no nausea, Thus no car or motion sickness. Val. and zanox upset the stomach and cause one hell of a hangover. setting my soul free....

Thank you,everyone.
Went to the pet store yesterday and got the crate. Put it next to his bed and lined it with one of his pads and the blanket. Before I took him for a walk,I managed to sneak the cookie under the blanket, tossed my old T-shirt in - done! But guess what - the sob didn't go to sleep in either of them! Just "parked" in front of that hotel arrangement... I swear,he is making fun of me! Anyway,in the morning I found him in his bed. I don't know who is going to train who,but I am going to have a lot of fun, that's for sure!

David, special thanks to you, since your experience is the closest to what I might encounter.
I have a question for you ( and everyone else ) - the type and the size of the crate. There are not too much to chose from .Too big is not recommended.I got 26' high, one inch higher that the one where boxers are mentioned on the label. I know that it needs to be 3' over the dog's height. But I want to put a thick pad and he is about 22'(need to remeasure,he didn't want to do it yesterday, but I have a box from the pet door,it's 23' ,and he is about 1 inch less). So if the crate is higher than 26',it's much bigger crate (which is not recommended).I don't know which is better. My boxer is the biggest by standards. He is not fat,but "beefy". P.S.Flash is adorable! I think I am getting hooked on boxers, though I wanted a different breed.Well, the treasure fell into my lap as a free gift(not "with purchase..")... You sad - don't worry? Do you know that I would fly cargo myself if they would allow me? It's not a joke.I love him so much, that if my training fails,I might leave him with my ex..I want the best for him,so far it is with me...

I think he'll do fine. Our rottweiler got a whole week (not a lot of time) to check out her new crate before we whisked her away on a 12+ hour trip to Hilo... she wasn't the HAPPIEST when we picked her up (had to use Aloha cargo to Hilo, cause our rottie is too big to fly Hawaiian the whole way) but after a couple of days she was back to herself.

Thank you,Hawaiibound. My dog is over 70 pounds,so Hawaiian wouldn't take it? Just curious why..If,unfortunately, it's like luggage (going in cargo),then what's the problem?
I was going to use Continental (climate control),but they don't fly to Hilo. Anyone knows what are my options as far as airlines are concerned?

Hope,
We fly United San Fran to Kona. It can be a bit more complicated , but cuts hours off of the time in confinement and extra flight costs Honolulu to Hilo. Our dog is 90 lbs. It is a no-brainer for us now. Way best choice. Dan

Thank you,Daniel.I'll check it out.
90 pounds - it's a big Bear! BTW,he looks slim on the scuba day picture...Hawaii diet?
