Puna for Pilago - Would you join with us?
#1
I would like to announce the formation of a simple ad hoc group to advocate the election of Angel Pilago for Mayor.
We will call this group Puna for Pilago.

Upon close examination and with recent experience and past history I am personally convinced that Angel Pilago is the best candidate for this important office. I am so pleased to have a candidate I can truly be enthused about.

Those wishing to participate in supporting Angel Pilago and wanting to help plan a September 13th Puna event please contact me.

Of course, this topic is open for discussion.

I agree that Angel Pilago is the best candidate for the office of Mayor of the Big Island. He has a complete and detailed understanding of the issues and is able to consistently find a consensus on issues with other council members and districts. His integrity is what I especially like and he is not encumbered by corporate and off island contributions.

We'll be campaigning for Angel at the Maku'u Marked this Sunday. Stop and say hello!

I would like to add my support to Mr. Pilago for Mayor. In a year when I am having a hard time making up my mind about some races, this one is a no-brainer. He is pro-environment and has shown that he both values and supports Puna with his votes as a Councilman.

Cheers,
Jerry

Angel Pilago for Mayor!

This man offers a truly clean break with a past that has not been so great for Hawaii County Government.

No links to the Kim Administration, whose standing sinks lower daily as the clock run out for them to accomplish anything of substance -- other than spend a lot of money in easy times and leave it to someone else and the community to sort out the hard times knockin' at our door.

Pilago is not connected with the missed opportunities of the '90's either, like the one former Mayor in the race in 2008 is.

No disgraceful behavior while on Council -- in fact, plenty of leadership under difficult circumstances.

Most important, Angel Pilago's candidacy, the County's situation, and his own career are intersecting at a time that makes him the only logical choice for a way forward.

Please, for the land and for our children, we must not let this window of opportunity pass without making the most of it.

I got this message from Nita Pilago (Angel's wife) this morning:

"We are up against forces that have ruled us for 30 years......it's about time the people who really care about social and environmental just stand up and be counted."

Great! I've had a dozen people contact me. I will be in touch with you all soon and we will form a planning group for a September 13th event.

We also need to try to maximize voter registration and walk-in voting - which is really simple and easy.

If the experience of the local Democratic Caucus is any example the polls are going to be jammed come November. Walk in voting can really be a time saver for people.

Mahalo to you volunteers. Any others? get in touch. Local politics is where the rubber meets the road!

My first knowledge of Angel was in the early 1980’s. I recall him heading a summer program for teenagers I participated in. The program involved agricultural, farming and working of the land. I was one of these teenagers building and revitalizing ancient kalo, loi fields, and awai’s in the mountains and our lunches were free like school lunches. It was rewarding seeing overgrowth forests become fruit/vegetable producing land once again after hundreds of years. What was significant at the time is I recall one of the teenage participants saying that this program kept him out of trouble that summer because of the fact that his friends not in the program, hanging on the beach, did get in to trouble with the law at that time. I agreed thinking I probably would’ve gotten into trouble as well. It’s funny that while Angel was already cultivating the youth of our community trying to guide them in the right direction some of our Mayoral candidate were still in grade school.

Then I noticed Angel in the early 1990’s and still he was spearheading programs for the youth in our community. I wasn’t involved but recall one program was about Hawaiian culture, history and the Hokulea and Mauloa? canoes. That’s why I’m surprised that the recent poll showed many of our young adults leaning towards another candidate who had no true impact in their wellbeing besides “doing concerts”.

After this we all saw Angel fight for our shore-line access. Other wise only tourist would have had access to the few shore-lines us locals can now enjoy. And he did this at no personal “profit”! It wasn’t as if he was offered compensation to fight for our community against special interest!

This man has already done a “LIFE TIME” of community service for social and environmental justice. I would be HONORED to have this man lead us into the very fragile future that we are upon. With this man we are in good hands. He has my vote.

Alohaleo, Your post caught my attention and because of it, I am now leaning towards supporting this guy. It's one thing to hear over and over "oh I like this one best, everyone should vote for X", but I like to have actual examples of good works done; to me that shows what to expect from a candidate. So, mahalo for your input.

aloha, Liz
