conversations with Kale Gumapac ...he has actively supported these issues for a while Mitzi
Kale is obviously a person with a lot to offer the community -- He is smart and passionate. There are several people around Puna that fit that description, as it happens and lots of 'em are doing big and good things in this cusp time we live in. The Council is not necessarily where each and every one of those people is best able to truly live out those possibilities.
The limits I expressed about Kale were regarding a cool head and the ability to know something about County Government on the inside from Day One. That is why I said, if you can't vote for Naeole, vote for Joseph.
Mr Joseph has served on and Chaired the County Ethics Committee -- and that is not soft assignment.

...also, there is simply zero comparison between Mr Gumapac's interest/work/involvement/getting-things-done and that of Mr Pilago.
That simply does not hold water -- unless you can cite court cases? legislation drafted and passed? ...something substantial?

It's true that Angel Pilago has a very long track record working for worthy causes here on the BI and it's hard to compete with that. I'm just impressed when I see people with a history of working on important issues and otherwise contributing to the community before they became candidates. I personally can't site any court cases or legislation initiated by Kale Gumapac, but I do know that he has accomplished a lot with the Kanaka Council. IMHO it's a pretty big deal to be able to get diverse groups and individuals together to work on issues and get things done. I don't agree with every single position the K.C. has taken, especially their opposition to the waiawi biocontrol, but all told, they've done some good things. I think Kale is pretty sharp and I've noticed he does his homework.

Make sure you read the paper today. Looks like we are back in kindergarten. "He was mean to me so I told them I was going to tattle on him to all my friends and tell on him." Hmm, that sure is a nasty threat.

In the previous posts, there seems some folks who replied to this post do not really know Kale Gumapac and the accomplishments he has done in the last two years for the Big Island through his work with the Kanaka Council. The work through the Kanaka Council dealt with major issues that were either overlooked or not considered by other major island organizations including Hawai'i County. His track record when tackling these issues have been successful for the betterment of the community. The Kanaka Council is purely volunteer position with zero pay. All it takes is passion and commitment.
Mr. Gumapac is also a successful selfmade businessman. He is passionate and committed. These traits will also be carried on as he is elected as the Councilman for District 5. We need a strong compassionate, caring Councilman, who can stand on his own and not be swayed by outside interest groups. His record stands by itself. How many individuals who sought public office have had previous experience before assuming office? Sometimes it is better to elect one who is concerned for the community than one who has been tainted by experience and other interests. Kale thus far is the best candidate for District 5. The other candidates do not have the successful track record of Mr. Gumapac.
