The Fire Has Gone Out!!!
#1
I was very surprised to find the Volcano House inside Volcanoes National Park completely closed up. The rumor was that the fireplace in the lounge area has burned continuously for something like 135 years. Well it ain't burnin now!

I just Googled the place and it appears that the Park service has closed it for renovations.

I missed my white Russian while parked on one of the rockers by the fire tonight after our hike in the park.[V]

It has been closed for renovation and they put a notice out about a month ago.

It'll be closed for at least 6 months. Could be close to a year though.

The last time I was there the fireplace was out, they told me they'd "moved" the fire.
I think it's just a story for the tourists, I'm sure they'll have thougt of a handy explanation when they reopen.

It's still the oldest continually operating hotel in Hawaii, or so they say.
