Beach access in Hawaiian Paradise Park
#1
When I was last on the scene, I talked to a lady who lives on Paradise Ala Kai and she told me that there is access to a tidepool-like, beach area from Hawaiian Paradise Park. She said she would take me there, but she reneged. I will hate her forever. That's how I roll. One very trivial lapse and I just write you off forever, because, I figure there are 5 billion more people in the world and I will just hook up with the ones that don't disappoint. I don't think she is talking about that place on Shipman land, that has three feet of water.

What is this lady talking about? You can whisper it to me if you want to save it from tour buses loaded with tourists eager to, you you know, unload from the bus, or from people who are so in love with the aina that they can't wait to stab endangered fish and defecate in the bushes.

Glen, I haven't been there, but it's on the south side of HPP. I was told about it as a selling point when I was looking at a house on Beach Rd south of Maku'u. I never went though.
The road is fairly rutted after the houses on Beach road end ... but fine for a truck, at least for a ways ... I was driving a low-slung hybrid and it did not care for the road, to say the least.

Yes, she mumbled something about Beach Road and I think it was South of Maku'u Paradise, but not South NORTH of Kaloli or on Shipman land.

I wish you'd gone for that house!

There's a tidal pool about 15 mins walk South of HPP, along the lava shore. It's about 6 feet long and 6 feet deep. But don't go in if the waves are hitting hard! I haven't seen it happen to anyone but I wouldn't want to be in there when a dumper comes.

Where's this place on Shipman land, with 3 feet of water?

Glen,
Please do not hate me for this.
There is a beach abutting Shipman land beyond Kaloli.
I've not been, but the rest of my family has -- 20-something sons reckon it's really nice!
End of Kaloli. Walk the rest of the way.

Indeed there is - walk along the lava shore North of Kaloli. But, it will take you more than 2 hours to get there.

Wait I got turned around. Excuse me but I took the last flight out yesterday, and didn't sleep the night before. I meant it is not NORTH of Kaloli. We were standing on Paradise Ala Kai between Kaloli and Paradise and she pointed toward Paradise and mumbled something about tidepools and don't go during high surf. It is not the sandy beach one on Shipman land. So I think rbbaker got it right. And the one Mr. Weatheford refers to is the other one that is a very long hike across Shipman land.

They're two different areas. The beach is to the north that you walk to.
The tidepools are to the south off of Government Beach Road going towards Hawaiian Beaches. (And not to be used if water isn't calm, I was told that too).

As for Shipman, they own large acreage both north and south of HPP, but the north is where the Shipman home/estate is and controls the only way to drive to that beach (as it was explained to me).

Damon, The picture is NOT Shipman Beach, but the discription is. Shipman is north,(Hilo Side) of Kaloli.

There are 2 different entrys that I know of south (Pahoa side) of Paradise....
One has a raised tide pool cut & large rock rubble entry, VERY dangerous in most swells. Only try this entry with someone VERY familiar with the area. The other one is a walk or bike ride (or very rugged drive with no {real} parking & potential for your car to be parted out) down (south, Pahoa way) from Makuu.... there is it a little more protected than the above, smaller rock/pebble beach than above, beautitful coast-scape, but still has the very current-ty conditions that are the Puna coast...

Glen... last flight... are you here? are we gonna go Kayaking this time???
