Beach access in Hawaiian Paradise Park
#21
Beachboy -- I am so sorry you had that experience. Having to worry about your car is just.....well, it just shouldn't be and I hope something can be done. I hope we all become part of the solution. You've experienced more than your share of this. For me, this is the NUMBER ONE thing I do not like about Puna.

rbakker: I can't ask for more precision than that! Thank you! I will now let this thread die a natural death. With the search function down, no one will ever know!

Sorry about your car window and Ipod Roger!
We were just talking about how we've never had any problems leaving cars parked there while at the tide pools.

The tide pools we went to from HPP were off Paradise. I'm pretty sure it was Beach Road, right (Pahoa side) off Paradise. Drove in my car over a very bumpy road (probably what did my tie rods in lol) and there are a couple parking spaces by two poles that mark the short trail to the beach. The beach is rocky, and there's a big shallow tide pool - people take their keiki and dogs. Just makai of the shallow one is a deeper one where two adults were standing in it with water up to their chests the day we went. That's the one that can be dangerous at high tide.

Very beautiful. Lots of mosquitoes on the trek from the road though and watch out for the wana (Hawaiian sea urchin with the long sharp spikes) in the tide pools, especially if you take your dog or little ones who don't know better than to mess with them.

There's a couple different ways to Shipman's Beach, officially Haena Beach but not to be confused with the golden sand Haena Beach on Kauai near the Na Pali. The shortest way I heard is Beach Road left (Hilo direction) off Paradise to the end, and then walk around 2 miles. It's a white sand beach with lagoon. Haven't been yet...waiting for a group hike.
