spraying for termites (new construction)

The problem with the basaltic material is it is not available locally and you need to import tons and tons of material from a great distance. While it has been shown to be very effective I have not actually heard of one person doing i t on the Big Island. Can anyone correct me?

The main thing on this product is the sieve size.... basalt is EVERYWHERE, all you need is a grading sieves sorter set at #8 & #16.... do not know if any of the aggregate dealers on island HAVE accurate grading, but if they do, it is just a matter of grading the available aggregate... (also do not know if there is any product protection on this, as it was developed with CTAHR.... there could be....)

Just confirmed with my builder - if you have post and peer structure, no spraying is required.

The treatment is for slab construction, as was the initial question on the treatment. This is required as formossan (ground) termites can tunnel under concrete slabs & into the house structure through small cracks in the foundation...

That said, ground termites can also migrate easily into post & pier construction & it is on the owner to be ever vigilant for the furrows.

I just used Horizon Pest Management to spray my foundation, approx 700 square feet. They charged me 270 where other outfits wanted 450, so far, no bugs.

Well, lots of good information but can anyone tell me what is a safe distance from the slab to plant edible plants?

I've just asked the guy who does termite protection for living what distance he would use himself.He said at least 6-8 feet.
