Lava Tours Reviewed, Climbing Volcanos
#41
I always found Steve irwin's,(crocidile hunter)antics foolhardy and idiotic. I feel sorry for him and his family, but i also felt sorry for all the wildlife he molested. Moral of the story,"don't do this yourself") ps.(OR ON TV)

I was appalled by Steve Irwin, harassing wildlife for fame and financial gain (as he nominally edu-macated the public on wildlife). But I am comforted to know that he died doing something he loved: harassing wildlife.

Shane, on the other hand, harasses no wildlife and, at worst, gets closer to the home of a goddess than any of the rest of us think is wise. Whether that is deemed harassment is up to her, and not us. She has not spoken to me lately (except to say to keep my eye on Halema'uma'u, which I doo-ma''oo.) Shane, what ARE you doing to piss all these people off though? Something has been left unspoken. Your passengers are insane, but that's their problem. What are you doing that pisses people off so??

Here's a shot I took of one of the lava boats. Is this yours, Shane?
http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/251...2048ZiOMoh

the rest of the photo album shows the boat's approach .. waterspouts, etc..
it's not all about the boat ... the boat was proximate to the show ...

there's an interesting mentality shared by a lot of visitors, which is that "big brother' is so on top of us that any tour or attraction the posed a real risk would not be "allowed." Ergo, the lava boat tours are not shut down by the powers that be (whoever "they" are), so the trip is safe.

There are photos of the ocean entry plume and Halemaumau in my webshots album.
Glen, a photo you might enjoy.

this image "appeared" while I was shooting some after dark shots of Halemaumau vent last Sunday ... it looks to me like an X-ray of a ghostly arm holding a bundle of lava.

I'll take sittall's opinion to the bank. Oh the banks are having problems so let me rephrase that. If sittall says this is ono, it is ono. Next trip over I'm headed out!

Kathy fantastic pics, thanks for sharing them with us!

i too went on one of shane's lava tours last month. yes, we went right to the plume and saw lava splatters. it was not acidic as i expected. it was like water vapor. no irritated eyes or coughing episodes.

it was a lovely morning excursion. my only criticism was i couldn't quite hear/understand the woman doing the narrating most of the time. but maybe that could just have been me.

it was a special experience seeing the coastline with the open lava tubes and new black sand beach. also some flying fish kept us company. the larger boat gave a better ride in the rough seas and was shaded. shane has kama'aina rates. feel free to make him an offer. the boat departs from pohiki

i've seen shane's dad doing his lava diving adventure on the internet. gotta love people who are not afraid of testing the limits.

Nice shots Kathy & yes thats our LavaKat.

As about our restroom, since running out of Pohoiki we have never used it, we require our guests to use the restroom before our trip which lasts just over 2 hours.

As for these people who you say don't like us or me well good luck making everyone in Puna happy, our reputation is great among people who actually know us or have done business with us. All this humbug you talk of was months ago & mainly just misunderstandings.

Thanks guys for the props on the pics!
The best way to see them is do the slideshow -- click from the full album setting. That lets you see them on a black background instead of next to all the Webshots crapola.

I am finicky about picture frames, so why not about webpage framing? [Wink]

Shane, thanks for letting me know that was the Lavakat. I was wondering!
Too close for me, but to each his own.
