This was a famous line from one of my all-time favorite movies, 'Cool Hand Luke'. It is by one of my all-time favorite actors/human beings, Paul Neuman. I'm sad to report that Paul Neuman is no longer with us on this earth!
Fox News:
It was reported Friday that Newman, 83, had only weeks to live and had returned home to his wife, Joanne Woodward.
The Oscar-winning actor was pictured being pushed from a New York cancer hospital in a wheelchair.
“Paul didn’t want to die in the hospital,” a source said. “Joanne and his daughters are beside themselves with grief.”
The source, described as a close family friend, said that the star had spent the past few weeks getting his affairs in order.
It was claimed that some of Newman’s actions had caused tension among of his children.
“He gave a prized car — a Ferrari with his racing number, 82, on it — to a long-time pal,” the friend said. “The sudden move angered his children. It’s especially hard for them to come to grips with what’s going on.
Newman married Woodward in 1958 and the couple have three daughters. He also has two daughters from his first marriage to Jackie Witte.
It was reported last month that he had been readying their oldest child, Nell, to take over his Newman’s Own salad dressings company, the profits of which are given to a charitable foundation.
Associated Press:
According to the Associated Press: "Newman died Friday after a long battle with cancer at his farmhouse near Westport, publicist Jeff Sanderson said. He was surrounded by his family and close friends."
Born January 26, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, Newman went on to a successful career that saw him appear in more than 80 films and television shows. During the course of his career he was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning once, in 1987, for his performance in The Color of Money. His last nomination came in 2003 for Road to Perdition. He was last heard as the voice of Doc Hudson in Pixar's animated feature, Cars. His last on-screen role was the 2005 HBO miniseries Empire Falls.
Not only an actor, Newman was an acclaimed director -- see Rachel, Rachel, which garnered multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture -- race car enthusiast -- he once finished fifth at Dayton speedway -- and a food mogul. In 1982 he co-founded the company Newman's Own -- probably best known for its salad dressing -- of which all the proceeds when to charity.

"Boy, I got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals" (prophetic) Butch Cassidy's classic line. Brilliant actor and humanitarian, a decent man who lived a life to be proud of, his legend will live on through his films and his charities. Thank You! you will be missed.

"He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker."
Rock on in Heaven Paul, you old son of a gun.

Knew it was coming, but still felt very sad when I learned the news...
He was great, I can't think of a single movie he did that I did not like. One of my recent favorites was Road to Perdition. He was such a great SOB in that movie.
I'm glad he did the voice-over work in Cars, he was introduced to another generation of kids who might go back and find him when they get older.

“Come’s a time when the bitch don’t recognize the pup’s.” [Cool Hand Luke]
“Can’t swim, hell the fall will probably kill ya” [Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid]
He was truly one of the great ones, I’m going to be thinking about all he has given us all day today.

OK, Paul was a good entertainer, race car driver and contributed to charities. RIP Paul.
I just don't see him as leaving a larger imprint on society than local neighborhood volunteers, youth coaches, teachers, nurses or other giving people.

There are many ordinary giving people who work tirelessly helping others, that do not get the recognition that a 'Star" gets. Does not mean they are less appreciated because we take the time out to pay our respects to Paul Newman. He was a man who lived by his principles and standards, not making the type of headlines like so many in the sports and entertainment fields! He supported many charities and started his own through his product line (which will continue) to benefit ill children. Paul Newman once told a reporter "We are such spendthrifts with our lives. The trick of living is to slip on and off the planet with the least fuss you can muster. I'm not running for sainthood. I just happen to think that in life we need to be little like the farmer, who puts back into the soil what he takes out."
