For anyone interested in swapping produce and/or other edibles this is a great time to make a go of all of this sustainability talk. If you are planning to come to the Beach this Sunday and have something to trade bring what you have. I'll be bringing avocados for trade and Jim and Carey may be bringing some items as well. Let's get this thing started. Sunday is a perfect time.

Hi Greg:

We chose to make Richardson's our meeting location way back in September 2006 and have been meeting there more or less every month since. As a result there are a lot of people (within and outside the Punaweb community) that know that that is the time and place of our meetings. Consistency with this sort of thing is a must. If we mixed up the locations and times it would probably throw many people out of the loop. We actually have had many people join us out of the blue on a Sunday because they heard about us or read about our meetings in the Hawaii Tribune.

We originally chose Richardson's because of:
1. Lots of room and parking in a pretty safe environment (Police station actually on site).
2. Great facilities including restrooms, showers, picnic tables and both sandy and grassy areas.
3. Since people join us from many different areas, Hilo seemed like the most central spot on the East side.
4. Very safe place to swim, kayak, snorkel and so on because it has a large protected bay surrounded by reef and rock outcroppings. It also has a very easy entry with a nice sandy bottom.
5. Great dive site with little fear of being swept away to Tahiti in a vicious current. Lots of interesting sea life and bottom topography to explore.
6. Richardson's and neighboring beach also have manned lifeguard stations in case there were an emergency.

Having said all of this it's certainly possible to have other beach days in Puna or other locations other than the first Sunday of the month. I know there are several people who would join us if it were on a Saturday instead of Sunday. Go for it! Set something up.

If you would like to catch a ride to Richardson's this Sunday make your desires known and maybe someone could accommodate you.

Andrew

Super, way to go guys! Wish I could be there sounds like a grand time! I'll be in Nevada registering voters, but will be wishing I were there snorkeling, laughing and scratching with you water dogs!

If anyone wants to pick purple sweet potatoes after the day at Richardsons, we should be heading up to some new fields around 4ish on Sunday, unless the maid of the mer calls....

We'll be at the Beach Day get-together. Looking forward to it!

But then we have our 'other monthly meeting' afterwards, so won't be able to do the sweet potato harvest on Sunday. If y'all get sidetracked playing in the ocean and schedule it for another time, let us know.
