Vegetable swap
#1
My avocado trees are producing and I have avocados to spare. Anyone interested in trading for any other fruits and/or vegetables?

Jim n Carey have Bilimbi, cassava, hot HI peppers, weed cherry tomatoes; oranges, tangerines, lemons & grapefruit are just starting in, and can always tap into our friends' sweet potato rejects.

Also have some St Augustine pepper starts & garlic sprouts...

I'll swap for any of the above. Bring what you like on Sunday to Richardson's and I will bring my avos and we'll swap away.

Thanks Jas

We've already got a garden coming up. We're hoping there will continue to be others who will TRADE/SWAP fruits and vegetables. Many of us don't have a lot of ground to grow a little of everything. We've got watermelons, corn, green beans, green peppers, banana peppers, egg plant, tomoatoes, and okra coming up. We've planted cantelope, garlic, onions, and lettuce but unsure how they will do so far. We're planting in crushed volcanic rock so any growing pointers would be greatly appreciated. Is there enough minerals in the crushed rock or should we be adding potting soil? We did add some fertilizer and water when it hasn't rained. Linda Bowman

Linda, the crushed volcanic is low in nitrogen, but pretty good in most other minerals....
it is good to add some organics too, to increase the water retention (as strictly cinders is likely to not retain water as well as a soil/cinder mix....) probably do not need bagged potting soil, if you can get soil from any one (even if you do not have a truck, you can always pick up a garbage can or a few 5 gal buckets to haul soil in the car....) There are places close by that have choke soils (esp. most property on the east slope of Mauna Kea & some of the area on the NE slope of Mauna Loa that have a lot of rainy weather (1500'-4000' el.) seems to breakdown the cinders...

Edit to update:
If anyone wants to pick purple sweet potatoes, we will be heading up to some new fields after the veggie swap at Richardsons, around 4 ish at the field (unless we are pulled by the lure of the ocean...)

I thinK the Scuba Sunday meet at RICHARDSON'S is a great chance to swap veggies. Let's all bring what we can. I will probably have eggs.

Linda, I have choke soil If you want bring a vehicle up, we can load anything from 5 gallon buckets to a pick up truck load for you. It just needs to be when it is not raining so my tractor doesn't get stuck in the mud. (Even if loading 5 gallon buckets, it is best for my source spot to dig it out with the tractor).
