It is an old post. But Mitch's dream is my dream too. Unfortunately prefab must have the same administrator as cat's so hard to contact him.[|)]

Last year, article in the paper mentioned a local company interested in building container homes. (
http://www.affordableportablehousing.com/) Not sure if their plan went through, personally I thought it was a great idea!

I believe they have submitted and received approval to the CC for a permit for a 40'er. They are looking for more.

The only thing I could think of to suggest is to look at that website. Hopefully he can weather the bad economy. I know I'd try use the weakness in the economy to buy another container. I'd buy from affordableportable everything being equal since I like their philosophy. I always thought you can detect the sense of idealism in affordableportable as well as castleblock.

What a great website - wealth of info. Thanks hikatz.
I have a 20 ftr that I plan to convert, so I found the site to be very informative. I wish them well.

Wow this is an awesome idea! Anyone know what type of foundation would be best. Might be kinda heavy for a typical post and pier. Or could you just put it on the level ground?

Two websites has information on type of foundation needed. (
http://www.shipping-container-housing.co...iners.html) (
http://www.bobvila.com/HowTo_Library/Bui...A2413.html) if you Google, (used shipping containers as homes) you will find lot more information.

You might want to google Adam Kalkin,he has built several container homes,he is an architect. He has one that is on the coast of maine and was just featured on HGTV.Very interesting and almost unlimited configurations.
