Last year we had one roasted turkey, one imu turkey and one smoked turkey. Lots of kalua pig, long rice, poi, sweet potatoes of a variety of colors, Jell-o salad, potato salad, two kinds of rice, haole potatoes, lots of pies, home made ice creams, assorted salads of many varieties and muffins, rolls, bread, cranberries and tofu too.
Haven't a clue what we will have this year, whatever our friends show up with mostly since it is a big pot luck.

My friends and I have decided that this year we are going to have a Nene goose stuffed with a couple spotted owls shipped in from the mainland. The old timers say it is so ONO. We plan to go golfing at Volcano golf course on Wednesday and with a bag of pop corn and a nine iron we figure that we can take one out on the fifth hole. That is depending that we can lure it close enough with the pop corn. Our plane is to start a tradition and call it a Nene-stuffed-hooter, traditions have to start somewhere.

Kapohocat... that sounds like the ultimate Island Thanksgiving!
Can't wait till we are on island next year for our first one. Everyone is invited. We are going to Half Moon Bay (Ca)for Thanksgiving. It is a tradition we started when we moved so far from family in 2006. We bring the pets and have a great time, but because I miss the traditional foods, we do a dinner on Sunday night (after the turkeys go on sale) for friends. I cold smoke a honey brined turkey and then cook it on the grill. We always have Dungenees Crab (season just opened) and oysters on the half shell among lots of other good stuff. Purple yam salad is a favorite we make here too.
