Romano's Macaroni Grill (the national chain restaurant thats comparable to Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday) will be opening tomorrow at Queens Court Mall in Waikaloa with their lunch and dinner menu. It's right across from the new Island Gourmet Market (which is basically a glorified ABC store).
Why can't they build something like that in Hilo? I think that there would be a very good market for a chain restuarant thats a step up from the McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell fast food.
If anyone eats there... please let me know how it was

LOL...
They wont build something like that because the owners do not want do deal with the "we don't want you here" attitude of Hilo plus the legal road blocks that are thrown up to keep them out.
Ask Walmart.

It's probably too pricey for Hilo, and the food is mediocre at best. Kona can have it.

Jon, if you're commenting on my post then you seem to be implying that I'm a spokesperson for (representative of?) the Hilo community at large. Don't think the locals would appreciate it since I'm but a humble mainlander transplant who just happens not to like Macaroni Grill. I don't care for McD's either, but people in Hilo keep buying their burgers, proof that restaurants can succeed here without my endorsement.
Never thought my personal opinion about a restaurant would be misconstrued as a "we don't want you here" attitude, but I'm flattered that you gave me so much credit.

The problem is, everywhere I look or go, its that attitude that shows up.
it is funny that on Friday night we were in Hilo, and looked for a place to grab some grub.. it was after 8pm and all we could find was fast food.. and they were all packed and lines of cars at the drive thru's . We tried the "Ice Pond" and they were not serving because it was to to near closing time.
