Chrismas... how's your day going?
#1
In the spirit of my original Blog here on Punaweb, here goes....

Put the turkey in the oven by 10 PM to cook all night. Got up at 4 and 6 to check it... so yummy. At 8:30 turned the oven up to brown while hubby started on our traditional holiday breakfast of Orange Juice, sausages and Pepperidge Farms Turnovers... raspberry and apple! Yum.

At 9 took the turkey out to cool on the sideboard and get ready to put the ham in. Hubby asked "Did you have a little sausage?". Uh, I snuck one.... we both looked and the plate was empty. Apparently our two "puppies" let themselves in and at least one found the sausage. We noted the plate was not moved or disturbed; just empty. When we opened the front door they both left with enthusiasm... (aka guilt). Well, at least They had a good breakfast. Hubby is deflated; won't cook the turnovers now... says it's "too late"... Men! So, of course, I am having chocolate covered macadamia nuts for breakfast. Don't want to put a damper on the holiday spirit of over-indulgence! Christmas music is booming.

Ham is in the oven with baked sweet potatoes, will start dough for fresh bread by 11 and then pies and fresh cooked cranberries... should be a hoot.

Oh, ad I got a wonderful pressure cooker for Xmas. This may not sound wonderful to some of you but I would rather have that than a diamond any old day. I'd just lose the diamond in the mud while feeding the sheep or gardening or something.... Hard to lose a pressure cooker!

Hubby got a wonderful small shop-vac from me... so he has an easier time cleaning my jeep and truck! Wow, what a day so far. LOL

How is YOUR day going so far?

Enjoyed a Christmas eve with friends (even got to dropoff our last Christmas present - the mom had to work 11 hours yesterday & wasn't home when we first stopped....) Made it to midnight mass with minutes to spare ~ and got a special treat, our kupunas did a special christmas hula!
Slept in, enjoyed our lazy rainy morning, calling loved ones on the mainland & hearing tales of their snowy travels, & visited with neighbors
Monkey is now out on a limb, picking fruit
I am getting things ready to go see some more friends... AHHH the holidays!

We were up late waiting for Santa to visit (waiting for the kids to fall asleep). Finally went to bed around midnight. Had a hard time falling asleep when at 2:00am the fire alarm went off. Apparently it was malfunctioning. Of course it had to be the one on the 14ft ceiling. Had to get the ladder out and of course the kids woke up and they wanted to open presents. Had to talk them into going back to sleep. They woke up at 5:00am and we decided we wouldn't be able to go back to sleep so we opened presents. We had a wonderful time but I am very tired.

I also got a pressure cooker for Christmas. We will have to share recipes![Smile]

Yuletide greetings to all! The Bear and I went to a neighbor's house last night where everyone made their own pizza to bake in the very nice new gas range. We had a lovely time.

Right now we are getting ready to experience a family tradition of mine from the ranch. Every year the Mexican families who worked for us would bring tamales to the house for Christmas so my mother would not have to cook. We always enjoyed this immensely, and Mama would cook ham, black-eyed peas, collard greens, and cornbread for them to eat on New Years Day. So Bear and I are having friends over today for a tamale dinner and again on New Years for the traditional Southern good luck meal. I called Mama and told her what we were doing and she said, "Maybe I raised you right after all."

May the love and peace of the Yule Season be with you all.

And cheers, as always,
Jerry

Pam, I cracked up at your Sausage Capers.

We are not having a regular Christmas... no decorations or presents this year. Next year in Hilo we will go ALL OUT to compensate. We are busy in PACKING mode. The office is all packed and now I am working on the family room. We got our pet certificates yesterday in the mail, so all we have left for them is their final vet check here (health certificate and flea/tick treatment). The movers are going to pack for 2 days, but there are some things I need to go through... lots of food for the food bank. And the most precious of things I am packing myself. My husband had a day yesterday cleaning out 30 of my favorite pots and readying them for the move. After three really terrific garage sales we have cleaned out a lot of things and made the bargain hunters happy.

Last night our next door neighbors (who we are going to miss greatly)had their annual Christmas Party and we rally enjoyed that. A few other good groups of friends are giving us good bye dinners so there won't be a lot of cooking in the next week.

This morning I made Mac Nut Pancakes and used the last of the maple syrup. For dinner we are having olive oil and garlic roasted California Dungeness crab with cole slaw and crusty SF Sourdough bread.

Jerry, I made 4 dozen tamales 2 weeks ago and froze them, so we had some of them yesterday and have more for New Years too. Of course served with Hoppin' John. Made the ham a few days ago so we would have the bone and meat for the Hoppin' John.

The countdown begins and most of you know what that is like... as you have done it yourself! 10 days, 22 hours till our plane touches down in Kona. Whoopee!

Aloha au i Hawai`i,
devany

Enjoyed Christmas Eve with good friends and played fun games...mom got dolled up and loved it. Woke up early, made some coffee and opened gifts...fun was had by all. Something to read, something to eat, something to smell and a treat for the pups!

Happy Holidays to All! Yesterday was nice, a linner (late lunch early dinner after last minute stocking stuffer shopping with SB). Got a ton of movies to watch. Visited with a few neighbors, made all the calls to Family and FOC. Stocking up on peacefulness this year as next year SB's grow up kid & family will be here! Prime Rib going in oven momentarily!

And the following is for Tom Lackey ![:p][Big Grin] I know you'll see the humor in it!

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, gender, class status, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.

Translation: Merry Christmas and Happy New year!
