I'm just glad you were not talking about putting those 4 "on" the menu... [Wink]

While it nice to be thought of as vital to anything, especially something as important as a "survival co-op", I really think the ultimate success of such a venture depends upon the attitude of the participants. A desire to insure the welfare of ones ohana and the Puna community at large, is to me the defining factor. Any survival skill can be learned, but the desire to participate in a personal and community effort to minimize the effects of the degradation of the economy must be inherent to the individual. Including ones neighbors in any such effort is vital, unless one desires to be some kind of hermit. Trading your skills and training others in those skills will enable the community as a whole to benefit. JW is prime example of this behavior, making available to anyone willing to listen the techniques and skills necessary to exist using appropriate technology. This attitude is the vital component of any such co-op, as well as zero tolerance for racism or prejudice's.

Very well said Dick. I'd have to say that I agree with everything you said. I hope the guy coming to take y'alls stuff is as well spoken and open minded. I think there are a great many people on these boards that are getting themselves prepared and would do just fine if the ships stop coming, I would hate to see it be all for not 30 days later..

In light of Menhune's latest post I've no wish to pursue this topic any further. I just thought it was worth mentioning but I don't want to stir anything up, it was kinda ment to be tongue and cheek.

Thanks Dick, I appreciate that.

As well, I'd personally and really advocate keeping the gun topic off the forum entirely. It's been fully hashed out and what we understand no one agrees, and it has long ceased to be constructive, at least in my opinion, and can only serve to drum up even more paranoia than already exists.

Dave; I think we have a failure to communicate. Anyone intent upon taking "my stuff of any sort" would be well advised to insure his/her affairs are in order. A strong sense of community involvement also includes zero tolerance for those who choose to not to behave in a civilized manner. If one choose to live outside the law, then any adverse consequences are to my mind self-inflicted and deserving of no sympathy. No community can allow theft of goods and services to go unpunished. Hopefully law enforcement can handle these individuals, if infrastructure has degraded to the point of being unable to defend the community, then direct action by members of the community to discourage such behavior may be necessary. Such action has been practiced in the past, such as banishment from the community and the withdrawll of community support and services.

JWFITZ...

you might want to put together a list of all the subjects that are not allowed... or maybe a list of those that are (it might be shorter).... [Wink]

Jon, I've got no list. Others do, and before they become enforced I'd suggest it would be prudent to take prudent steps to tone it down a bit.

Just my take. There are things really worth talking about and if all becomes taboo because of a single sticking point, well, that's a shame.

Jon; I think JW makes a valid point, The gun debate is a losing proposition. Emotions run strong on both sides, and trying to change anyone's mind on the sublect is like trying to teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time and irritates the pig. Whenever firearms come into any thread, it almost immeadiately deteriorates into 2nd ammendment versus the anti's and no further useful discourse takes place on the thread. Hence I just stick to my own convictions and avoid expressing my opinion of firearms, those who know me know my stance and those who don't are free to draw their own conclusions. I beleive it was Ben Franklin in Poor Richard Almanac who said it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open ones mouth and remove any doubt
