Competition for weekly Farm Markets
#11
I have only checked out the Walmart sellers twice and both times there was a combination of locally grown asian things and other items bought at a wholesaler or maybe Costco. The evidence is clear in the boxes as well as occasional stickers. However if you buy at a wholesaler, like someone who sells to restaurants they do not always have stickers.

Hey Nellie,

Yes, we made it here yesterday and the animals also made the trip just fine. LOTS of paperwork and I wish they could talk to tell us what it was like for them to ride in the belly of the plane. Even the cat is already back to normal, which means it cannot have been too tramatic.

The farmer's market on Kinoole is good, but very small. EVERYTHING is local though and it should be supported wholeheartedly. Most of it is also organic. I usually swing by there first and then go to Mamo. I like the Waimea market too, even if it is a hearty drive, we have some friends up there and I like the Foodland there too.

Thank you Devany - I really want to check out the different Farmers Markets, and my boyfriend had told me there is one there. It's close to where I will be living so its perfect when I want fruits and veggies! I will definitely be supporting them wholeheartedly. :-) I am glad the animals are doing well, and I am looking forward to joining you all on the island next week! I can't believe its almost time!
Aloha,
Nelli

I was not impressed at the produce that the lady has outside of WalMart...it always looks old. They must pay WalMart a chunk to do business there. I wonder...

i'm wondering if the walmart vendor is paying a percentage of his/her sales + lease rent?

Yeah the hours at the Volcano one are very disappointing, especially since its the only one that is right down the road from me. Sunday is the only day I consistently have the opportunity to sleep in. So by the time I am waking up it is over. Isn't it pretty much over by 9? So far I've only been there once. Its too bad since I really would like to do regular shopping there. I'd go to the Hilo one but I work most Wednesdays and Saturdays.

I met a lady that had opened a hot dog cart in front of Wal-mart. She eventually cut a deal with Sam Walton to put carts in front of hundreds of Wal-marts. Her whole deal was that she hired only disabled folks and paid them pretty well. She was making a fortune until old Sam Walton died. Then the Walton kids said "screw her" and shut her down.

Wow, you mean you can find a discounted deal there! So what's your beef? The movie & music industry have been reeming the consumer forever. What, you gotta problem with getting even?
