East Hawaii... Where to go after 10:00 pm?
#11
there are a couple of coffee houses that stay open (only till about 10....) & some that have live entertainment... One is on Bayfront next to the fudge shop...

one of the surprises moving here were that none of the shave ice & Hilo Homemade ice cream places stayed open much past 5... no after dinner ice or cone! (the new owners of ice place down Kalanianaole may be open later, with the hostel... but haven't checked...)

This is still an area that wakes up early (Queen Liliokalani is busy at sun up) and parties late on rarer occasion...

Well, no one has mentioned yet the UH Performing Arts Center, EHCC/HMOCA Black Box Theater, Palace Theater, Akebono, etc venues all have evening events worth your attention/attendance. Coming soon "Rent" at several of the abovementioned venues. A benefit for our brand-new urgent care center in the Pahoa Marketplace, it's a student production of TAC.

yes, I thought about mentioning the Palace and the various events.
But then I was thinking he meant stuff that doesn't require any planning, like ANY NIGHT stuff.

There are plenty of cultural events if a person wants to go out on weekends.

Sorry, I did all my nighttime partying in my 20's and early 30's. I did enough for two lifetimes, I think. I used to go dancing to live music 4-5 times a week. But that was the 70's. [:p]

Now I'd rather watch a movie or TV at home, or sit on the porch and look at the stars, or read a book, or screw around on that horrible waste of time, the Internet. If I had close neighbors, maybe we would visit, but I really don't.

I can't remember the last time I was bored enough to wish there was a place to go out. [8D]

That's the second time I've heard that... but what about us Vampires?

I guess that is the one thing I miss about Oahu.

If I had that extra energy at night... I could literally pick and choose from many things to do.

I'm starting to figure it out.

People either go to bed, they jump on the computer, or they watch TV until they fall asleep. My guess, is with due time and population shifts, more night time activities will come about.

If you get a chance, Anthony Marzi wrote an interesting post today which is more of a legislative wish list then anything, but he mentions a Pahoa Village Center. I like the concept.

It's just a much different lifestyle here.

I'm really looking forward to this Obama ball at the Akebono just to see what "Puna Chic" is supposedly dressed like?

The Obama ball on Oahu is calling for "Elegant Aloha".

I sure hope "puna chic" doesn't mean Tuxedo [Big Grin]

My favorite place to go around midnight on a balmy night is Halema'uma'u. I got lucky there one night, figuratively speaking. The stars were blazing and you could see forever. Just a few minutes after we arrived, the plume burst into a column flame with an audible woosh and a light that made the entire caldera glow. No one around other than a very odd gentleman with a flashlight walking along side the road as we were leaving the area. Inexplicable.

Other than that, Ken's House of Pancakes. Avoid all places on Banyan, McKenzie, Poihiki, and any place with eels. And however you choose to arrive at your location, don't drive. Use a broom, a Segway on a dedicated path known only to you, or a helicopter, or have an out-of-body experience (tip: make sure you remember where you left your body, or choose another, nicer body to enter (ask permission)).

We sometimes go to open mic night on Thursdays at the old Shaka's, now Pahoa Village Cafe. Went to karaoke one night and ended up rapping with some other girls! lol....We've met a few good friends there, and many great acquaintances! The music is usually pretty good too.

Otherwise we stay home on the internet playing World of Warcraft or watching movies, or we get together with friends at each other's houses... or we babysit friends' kids so they can go out!

My wife and I go out to eat about once a week in Pahoa...Eat too much and go home.

One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.
