Will Stimulus.... stimulate Hawaii residents?
#1
I guess from the Honolulu advertiser article in todays paper... low and middle income Puna taxpayers will see a $400/$800 "Tax Credit". Or..... translating that into peoples paychecks....about $7.70 a week.

Will that stimulate the economy here in Hawaii?.....No!

And what about the average retiree living in puna? Any stimulus help coming your way?..... Absolutely nothing......unless your living on social security.

What about jobs?..... After Oahu takes whatever aid we get....We'll be lucky to keep the jobs we have.

"$7.70 a week"

That equates to an extra hour of minimum wage pay per week without the extra hour of work. Does not seem like very much, unless you're only working ~30 hrs/week minimum wage to feed yourself and a family.
However, there will be a few thousand of those $7.70/week in Puna and it is true that such additional money in the bank accounts of low/mid income folks will be spent and such spending will have wider effect in the community. Nothing to dismiss.

"... jobs?..."

$pending creates job$.

Of course, the most important point is that the "tax credit" is only a small part of the larger stimulus.

Crank up the printing pre$$.

Infrastructure, including mass transit. Retrofitting buildings, etc.
Mayor Kenoi is cultivating the source of appropriation$ in D.C. where the printing pre$$e$ are about to start rolling.

Expect to see real (newly printed) $$$$ identified for real projects ~ July 1, 2009, and real projects spending real $$$$
~ January 1, 2010.

Of course, if one is still not satisfied, then that would call for one to be articulate as to better ideas, ways and means Smile

If we're going to print and spend the money...then give every american taxpayer a check for $5,000.00. That's what 781 billion comes out to. That will create major spending which will create jobs. Even if it's short term....at least "everyone" will benefit!

Please notify the President and your legislative representatives in Washington, D.C. to inform them of your concept.

Not sure that all this spending will create any new jobs or any real jobs at all, but I am confident it will inspire a round of inflation. I'll also wager non of these infrastructure projects will be done at minimal costs.

Dont need "No stinking stimulas" - Obama will take care of us all at $13 a paycheck.

Would the $400/$800 tax credit possibly be in the form of a reduction by that amount on our 2008 income tax bill? I could sure go for that!

Nobody knows for sure....they seem to be making it up as they go!

If it is a reduction on our taxes...then the people that already filed will be getting a refund. Kind of what they did last spring when it was $600/$1200.

Macuu222, check your math. 781,000,000,000 divided by 300,000,000 (300 million guesstimate as to population) comes to 2,603.33.

But your basic point remains the same!

Inflation?
In Puna, if you lose your job and the price of gasoline goes down, are better off?

ever hear of deflation?
