HB 444 Civil Unions
#41
Jon what is the 2000 years crap? I am sorry but you need a crash course in the history of marriage dude. It's easy, just Google it and spend some time reading (although I get the idea that you will pick and chose things that will suit your cause). Sorry man I don't mean to attack here - I respect ya and your right to voice your opinions dude. But this is a subject very close to me. The one man one women thing is BS historically. And I refuse to justify the absurd discussion of marrying goats and so forth by arguing it with you or anyone. You say that marriage is not a right but if I had the power to make it illegal between males and females and invalidate their marriages (as happened in California) I suspect I'd hear a different story. Peace out and I have a big hug for ya someday.

Good question.
I suspect it’s because the United States Supreme Court has already ruled based on a determination of fact of United Sates founding law that a person could only be married to one person at a time.

This was not a limit on religious rights; it was an acknowledgement of religious rights. All known religions at the time of the founding of the United States recognized a marriage of two, but not all recognized a married of three or more. (Note the US Supreme Court did not say male and female, just two individuals). Further the courts also stated that if the claim of religion could be used to justify any action, what’s to prevent someone from also claiming that human sacrifices was a religious practice or that having sex with a infant is religious action? The Constitution does not grant an absolute right to practice religion as anyone sees fit, it grants the right to religious opinion, freedom from a national religion, and the rights to practice a religion consistent with federal law.

As such federal law had established marriage between two individuals as the neutral religious position of government. Such a limit does not deny anyone the right to marriage, just the number of spouses that constitutes a marriage.

Federal law absolutely prohibits discrimination based on:
Race – Illegal to prohibit marriage between people of the same or different races
Religion – Illegal to prohibit marriage between people of the same or different Religion.
Color – Illegal to prohibit marriage between people of the same or different skin color
National Origin – Illegal to prohibit marriage between people from the same or different national origin
Age (over age of consent and above 40) – Illegal to prohibit marriage between people of the same or different ages.
Disability (providing mental capacity is met) Illegal to prohibit marriage between people with the same or different disabilities
Veteran – Illegal to prohibit marriage between people who are or are not veterans.

YET,

SEX – Some just can’t bring themselves to make it illegal to prohibit marriage between people of the same or different sexes.

Oh what a bunch of hypocrites who will stand up waving the American flag and talk about the freedom of this country all the while trying to deny people their rights. So maybe same sex couples are more American than those who claim to be true real red blooded Americans fighting for freedom so long as it meets their political and religious ideology, just like the Taliban.

Thank you! [^] I am only saying what I 100% firmly belive in.

I bet there are many who read my words & passion who are profiling me - the exact same way - for the exact same resons - that Mr Percy Jones profiled Dante (the wedding planner) in the movie "Guess Who", and I am exactly as Percy Jones discovered. [Wink Now ain't that a kicker to them? [:0]

Jon and gtill, your last comments degrade what was a previously useful discussion. While I disagree with your opinions about same-sex unions, I find equating my long term relationship with clearly anti-social behavior as grossly ignorant. Please make an effort to meet some gay people- you might just expand your narrow view of what is really happening in this world. We are all in need of expanding our support systems; don't eliminate us, or anyone as potentially part of your ohana.

HAHAH
rbonplaza... Not only I have I met a few, I have known some for over 30 years, we bought out last house from a very nice couple, we lived in a neighborhood that had many gay couples... Lets just say you are barking up the wrong tree on this one.

This subject is just like the dope subject, I have no problem with what you want, its the method you are trying to get it that is wrong. The meaneing of the word marriage should not be altered, Civil Unions should replace the state function of Marriage and let the church call it what ever they want.

"Dope the Ignorant, Homophobic, Delusional, Idiot Troll" and the names keep a coming...

Over 2000 years is what I said... not sure what your problem is with the statement, and if you don't mean to attack... don't do it.
Denying the history of Marriage wont change anything in the present.

Hey Blake. Tried to send you an email on your blog with no response, so I'm taking up space here. Wish we could host you and L. for your upcoming visit, but we're presently freezing here on the mainland. Hope we can meet sometime in the not-to-distant future. Please consider Orchidland in your search. We would love to have you guys as neighbors! Three acres lots allow greater privacy and the minimal difference in altitude doesn't seem to change much regarding rain or temperature. Looking forward seeing the outcome of your search. Oh... thank you for forgoing your BMr purchase. You can respond (and I hope you do) to me at ralphbrydges@yahoo.com.
