Ineffectual Faye Hanohano
#1
Hey did you see the front page of the paper today? Our State Rep (Faye Hanohano) is spending time and tax dollars trying to eradicate FIREWORKS! You would think there are more important issues in our community? Things like burglaries, drugs, homeless, unemployment, roads ECT. I hope all of you that voted for her are happy with her inept history.
And, her bill was late and won’t even be voted on this year.
Good Job Faye…..

Shock...

I have seen her exactly "0" times at any local events or gatherings sense she got elected. From what I can tell, she lives in Honolulu and is their representative, not ours.

Blame the constituents who voted her in.

It is weird watching people insult someone on their ability to do something when they have no real idea what is going on.

Have you viewed the way she has voted this year on any issues... Or are you folks jumping on her because you're still stinging from the Blas loss?

Please show me just one thing that Fred would have voted on differently so far at this years legislature. I'll be meeting w/ both of them in a few weeks, so I would like to know where the voting difference might have been so far...

Just curious...?

BTW... she's not the only legislature spending time attempting to reduce injuries to people. Have you asked Fred about how he stands on this?

Ms. Hanohano did show up unannounced at the HPP General Membership meeting in February. We thought she would speak about her proposal to create a township for HPP, but she left without even asking to speak. Nobody could really figure out why she was there. Although she was not on the agenda, we would have gladly made room for her.

I'm sorry, Damon, but all we seem to get from this lady is passive, don't-shake-the-boat party line stuff or something feel-good like poi or fireworks. The first term, people made the excuse that she was a freshman. Now you imply that Fred Blas would vote the same way on everything, but you won't be talking with him for several weeks. How does that work? This is not about poor losers. It is about poor representation.

Don't get me wrong. Voting the right way is important, but when you represent the most underserved, neglected district in the state, you need to get assertive. The HPP township thing was something that even a skeptic like me found worthy of respect. It apparently got nowhere, though. Ms. Hanohano didn't even feel compelled to discuss it with the citizens who would be most affected by it when she had a golden opportunity to talk story with us at that meeting. Is this good representation? I think not.

Cheers,
Jerry

Damon... This is a small community, there is no reason Rep. Hanohano is not more accessible to everyone.

As for Fred's opinion of things.... send me a list of questions, I am sure I will see him in the next day or so and I will ask him for you.

Damon, I’m not sure what Fred’s stance on fireworks is but I will ask him tomorrow at the BBQ and let you know. I would think that he would consider that there are more important issues.
Don’t take my post as insulting. What is contemptuous is her lack of ability to find an unquestionable issue and create a bill to change it. While her voting record (on others bills) is important to us, I find her lacking the wherewithal to contrive important community change.
She just ain’t got it no matter how you look at her.

Everyone has different feelings about what is "Feel Good" and what is important.

TO MANY OF FAYES CURRENT CONSTITUENTS.... THEY PERSONALLY ASKED HER TO BRING THIS POI BILL TO THE TABLE... Trust me on this.

Obviously this Taro Bill concerned enough people... That the big money people Brought in Monsanto folks from around the world in an attempt to block this Bill.

If you followed any of the Hearing on Taro Security... you will know that this hearing lasted more then 8 hours alone and had hundreds of people testify and Thousands of people writing letters on both sides of the issue... So it obviously meant something to someone.

Calling the Poi Security bill a "Feel Good" bill is a slap in the face to the Hawaiian Community... I hope Kahunascott will ask Fred About that Bill as well.

Fireworks has been kicked around the legislature for the last 12 years that I can remember and effects many people, customs, and general attitudes of many people.

Have you tried to access her?

I have never had troubles talking to her. I drive by her at least once a day.

She is at Black Rock Cafe about 4 mornings of the week talking to anyone that approaches her.

If ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO ARRANGE A MEETING WITH HER... I'm sure I could personally get one scheduled with her for you within a 7 day time span if she's not on Oahu at the time.... (And I don't work for her)

Just because she may not show up at many events... does not mean that it's not on her mind. She and her longtime Boyfriend is also going through some major health issues that hasn't been made too public.

I understand she's a public figure in the State... and I understand that my personal feelings about her... obviously influence my thoughts on what I say about her...

But I do think she's getting a pretty unfair rap here in this thread by a few people who don't understand the complexities of the legislature.

Question:

Would PUNA do better with a Republican in office that has ALL of their IDEAS AUTOMATICALLY shut down because they are a republican... Or would PUNA get served better with a Democrat that other Legislatures would listen to and stand behind the bills that are presented from Puna?

Remember... Republicans are pretty much laughed at when it comes to presenting ANYTHING at the legislature right now and I'm still trying to remember a Bill that a Republican pressed that actually came into law within the last last 8 sessions.... but I just can't off the top of my head. Maybe someone can help me with that.

Did I say I was against the Poi Bill? No, I did not. Look at it this way. If a poll was taken of ALL the constituents of Puna, would poi genetic purity be the number one item on the majority's list of needed legislation for Puna? I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. When we are lacking so many facilities and services, it's all about PRIORITIES, and I disagree with Ms Hanohano on what they should be. Her passivity while we remain neglected is a slap in the face to everybody, Hawaiian or otherwise.

Would I be correct in guessing that Damon is related to Rep. Hanohano as well?
