any suggestions on where to get the best deal on a load of cinder for a driveway?

Sandersons. All the way. They give an extra big load and it's typically under $400.

Do you mean Sanford's Services? They haul cinder and base.

IMHO, my suggestion is - DONT USE CINDER, use gravel.

Whomever is cleaning your house will fight the cinder forever. You will eventually spend more money in vacuum cleaner & belts, fixing scratches, etc. Forget carpeting and cinder. It just chews it up. It tracks in all the time and then breaks up, sticks to everything. And this is with everyone taking shoes off at door. You only need one person to not do it and cinder comes inside.

Oh and SB says dont forget about stepping on piece of cinder with bare feet that has been tracked in. OUCH!

It is quite a bit more money and doesn't spread as far, that's why a lot of people compromise with cinder. But Kopohocat is right. It can be a chore and if you have money, you'll be a lot happier with gravel in the long run. The way we have done it for now is to lay cinder in the drive and then gravel and grass all around the house. That way it cleans off before you get to the door. Call Sanford's and have them price their largest load of both. It's going to be at least a couple hundred dollars different.
