Has anyone heard anymore about the possibility of pulling this from committee and advancing it for a vote? Last I heard the dems were getting cold feet or something. Seems like I also read we'd find something out this week.

don't know how credible my information is....but, i think they are trying to add more benefits to the reciprocal beneficiary relationships instead of creating civil unions.

Oh really? So bowing to conservative religious types AND trying to keep the gays pacified at the same time?

Hawaii need to look at what some Californians are now wanting to do....
"California Initiative Proposes Abolishing All Marriage from Law"

This is a the kind of change we need to work on, not making more "groups", but making fewer of them.

Far better minds than mine have weighed in on this issue. I know only one thing: I have been with the same person for over 13 years and regardless of the legal inplications, that man is my partner in life, love, business and all that the joining of two people (regardless of gender) can mean. We've been reciprocal beneficiaries since we moved here and that piece of paper, while small, means a lot to us.

Weird, but curious note: The first property we owned together was the first time one of the local escrow companies had ever encountered that situation. They actually had to call an attorney in Honolulu to confirm that we could actually hold title in that way. The law was that new. Since then, all the title/escrow companies are familiar with it. And if they are not, we have the documents to explain it to them.

I am proud to call David my partner, spouse, husband, whatever.

Now, end DADT --- "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". If someone is willing to be a patriot for our country (and all the risks therein), who they go home to at night means nothing. It hasn't affected Isael, England or any other of our European allies and I refuse to believe that our soldiers are so fragile that the mere presence of a gay or lesbian person in their ranks would cause a meltdown.

Side note: I did volunteer as has David -- we were both turned down. Me: formerly a civilian contractor to the Army for Strategic Defense, working on really-secret stuff. David -- trained and experienced nurse with a military background in Intelligence.

As far as the military... It should not be used for social experimentation, it exists to kill people and blow things up, anything that effects its ability to do that should not be allowed at all.

Until civilian society excepts gays, it should not be "tried out" in the military.

In 10 to 20 years this issue will be look at and people will wonder what all the fuss was.

Social experimentation?
The military society, in the US and in every country, has had gay and lesbian members for generations. There is nothing new here.

I would suggest that the military does not exist to "blow things up" but rather to make us secure. Bombing and killing other folks may be a result of their charge.

How one's sexual orientation fits in to the ability to perform a job is a mystery to me.

I served as a medic in the Air Force for four years and do not believe my orientation effected my ability to do my job.

I think that I might actually agree with Jon on this piece albeit in a round about kind of way and probably for different reasons but hey I am happy to find some common ground.
