John,
I'll try them when I get there, but since there are some rather large trees growing up through it, I don't hold out much hope.

A D-9 yikes! Before you do that, contact Mikale Hudson and find out your alternatives.
EightFingers, it seems like you have a real treasure... If your rather large trees are Ohia's, you want to keep them. You mention in your post "when I get there"... well, if there is here, right here, in Puna, next time you come here, cruise around and see how people have been thoughtful about building on their lots. You may get some nifty ideas and make new friends at the same time.

I piled dirt on top of an old engine block that was laying about and planted flowers in the new raised flowerbed. At the moment, though, we've unearthed the remains of a golf cart(?) or something about that size and I'm not sure if that will be buried or dragged off somewhere. Probably easiest to dig a hole next to it and tip it into the pit, but we have dirt here so that option may not be easy depending on how your property is.

A question- If all the vehicles are registered (somewhere in the US),why the authorities don't track the owner and charge him the expense of removing his junk?

Good question.
1. If on private property, the owner of the property is responsible for removal. (that private property rights thingy) Tracking down the last owner would cost more than removing.
2. On public property the government can charge the person who abandons it, but proving the last known owner was the owner who abandons it can be a problem.
In both cases, all someone has to claim is they sold it to someone and that person must have abandoned it. Only a few states require in law that a seller immediately report a sale with the name and info of the buyer. In those states, it's a bit easier to go after someone but not foolproof.

Exactly,in CA we have 10 days to report a sold vehicle (or else[}
])
About private property - if I want to get rid if my old car,all I need to do is to drive it to your place and leave it there?[:p]
