was there fri night and the service was a little slow but that was to be expected on opening night. The steak was very flavorful and the caesar salad was good. Didnt try anything else on the menu.

Going to take my wife there on V-Day. I'll let you know what I think.

Four of us had dinner there on Opening night. I had a half rack of ribs that was great at 13 bucks, Cathie had the marinade stake at about 13 bucks, she liked it I (it was too much like teriaki (spl?)for me). Don had the sirloin stake, it looked good and he liked it. Billie had ribs too.

Service was OK for a opening night. The baked beans that I got were a little dried out but tasted good. I had a taste of Cathie's macaroni salad and didn't care for it. I think the worst thing of the evening was the Co2 was weak in the soda, that is one of my pet peeves. Also they won't have a liqueur license until April. You can BYOB though.

We will go back again. I liked the family atmosphere and the so-so prices.

Yea, just talk to the guy that sold it to the previous guy... he now owns a hot dog/ hamburger cart that is at the Hilo Market on Wed & Sat. He will be at the Maccau (sp?) market next Sunday, where he is only going to be allowed to sell hot dogs.

It will always be Charlie's... Why do restaurant owners always seem to change the name when they move in?

My wife and I ate there on Monday. No problems with the service. My steak was good and cooked as ordered. My wife's mahimahi was undercooked so it was sent back and came back fine, probably opening jitters. We both thought that the relish on top of the fish could use a little work to spice it up. Overall, I'm happy that they are there and we will go back again.

Cheers,

Ate there for lunch the other day. The food was ok, but a couple peices of the veggies felt ice cold, like they were straight from the fridge and not heated up enough, and the prime rib was way overcooked. I asked for "as rare as you can get it" and what I got was mid well. Plus the salad took like 20 minutes to come out, and it came at the same time as my entre.

Still, overall everything tasted ok. Would probably go back, but it was nothing I was that excited about.

Lol. I completely relate. We call it "the place that used to be Charlie's".
