They're down the Makuu/Beach Rd end now.
Coming from Pahoa, we saw a big black one turn right over the highway and fly slow and not so high along Pahoa-edge of HPP.
Then circle around 2nd(?).
The County Police yellow and orange chopper patrolling nearer the coast, doing some circle/hovering/dipping along the way.

Here in HSRE the Oceanic Time Warner Cable and RoadRunner internet have been up and down all morning. Perhaps they are looking for downed lines/trees in area? The choppers have been all over this area all morning too.

They're all over Kapoho, Leilani and Nanawale as well. I thought it was the usual Green Harvest...they're not going along checking lines as they are traveling "as the crow flies" and not along roadway paths.

It's well within our current mayor's interests to keep GH going, cutting down on his friends' competition.

Still buzzing back and forth, back and forth across HPP.

They're here at the upper Shores too, not following power lines or roads, just making a grid-like pattern, off & on all day so far... We can see someone leaning out when they pass nearby, looking for something???

There's also been a helicopter flying low over Orchidland this afternoon.

It's a fairly large helicopter, grayish, with a red vertical stripe behind the doors. It's been flying at an elevation of approximately 200 feet, and at times appeared to be following a grid.

There are no power lines in my immediate area, and it wasn't following those on the road, so it can't be related to that. Definitely acting Green Harvest-ish.

Flying across Leilani all day.

Is there a "helicopters over Puna" office folks can call to get info?

All day long is a bit much and a whole lot of petrol, but hey, it's probably only our money they're spending so who cares.

BTW, responding to one of James' earlier posts, the county's yellow-and-orange chopper belongs to the Fire Department, and prior fire chiefs were loathe to use it for any Green Harvest-related operations. They were concerned about the stigma attached to it, including the possibility that someone might try to take a potshot (no pun intended) at it during search-and-rescue operations. Don't know if the recent Fire Department administrations have felt the same way, tho.
