I have seen a lot of people offering classes here. Most of the classes seem pretty expensive. I just want to let everyone know that you can learn so much from youtube. I know nothing beats the real thing but if you are on a tight budget like I am this is a great source. I have searched everything from hydroponics, to how to trim goat hooves. You can learn just about anything. I find the information invaluable.

Most folks don't think about going to youtube for education. Thanks for sharing that.

Damon used "DOE" and "kind of stupid" in the same sentence. Isn't that some form of literary understatement?[
] I like it.

I would hope the DOE can think of better things for kids to be doing at school than watching youtube videos. They can always do that at home.

You would hope, huh? Based on the DOEs track record, it's safe to say that they are not very good at thinking of better things for kids to do at school than watching youtube videos. And many students are doing worse things than that.
Sure, the kids can always watch educational youtube videos at home, but they won't--unless they've got special parents that value education and promote learning in the home.
I wouldn't rule out ANY medium if it can add to someone's knowledge base. Gosh, even the ornery nuns used a video now and then, and they were in the stone ages when it came to teaching technique. (A lot of hitting and slapping involved.) That said, I think we need to get back to mastering the basis (3Rs) before we start doing the fancy schmancy stuff.

I am not suggesting that DOE use youtube as an educational tool although I wouldn't have a problem with that. That would be up to the parents/students if they wanted to use it. It would be usefull if you are doing reports on a certain subject. Just look up anything you may have wondered about. I have looked up how to process coffee, cocoa , and vanilla. There is so much out there. I find it amazing. I just wanted to remind people to check it out if there is something you have always wondered about or are interrested in take a look. I am always amazed at what I see.

Absolutely as Jade just said, those who equate the internet as a big porn site are lost!
Is there no way a teacher or councillor could tape a UTube exerp with the UTube logo, but eliminating the constant funky pop up stuff before and after? Or would that be some violation of law? It could also be good for the kids as it would show them the UTube has other thing but porn and street fighting they usually see! The overweight Admin side of education here probably thinks porn is all UTube is about as that is all they use it for! More teachers and less (big time) Admin would probably eliminate all teacher layoffs.
I'd like to see all Admin heads explain what they do 40hrs a week that pays better than a starting teacher.
