Hele On Bus
#1
Could someone tell me why the Helo On Bus that runs from Hilo to Pahoa has an "official" stop on their printed schedule at Hawaiian Beaches and Nanawale (both private subdivisions)....but nothing for HPP? I know that they stop along the highway if anyone wants to get off or on at any of HPP's main entry's into the park....but thought it strange that they don't have it as a official pick up point.

Hawaiian Beaches is NOT a private subdivision.
County roads with no CCR's

There is a great deal about the Hele On Bus so-called system that is difficult to explain the reasoning of: why no real bus stops? why do schedules not service typical commuter travel times morning and evening? why have we been asking these same questions for years and seeing so little being done?!

Nanawale Blvd is a County road, the County just paved it.[8D]

And Nanawale has a park and pool,as do most of the others. Plus they paved their roads so the county accepted them. HPP seems to be waiting for someone to do it for them.
HPP, the most expensive lots with the most houses and land including for parks or whatever, seem to be big complainers. Love those big lots, but forgot (or are aware) that they also require more of everything especially paving, better the county than them.

Plus they have easy bus access with the big side lane. The county probably figures if the put up a bus sign, the next gripe would be covered pavillions to wait in(with AC).

The county has a few "real" bus stops on the HeleOn Routes

As to why there are not more official bus stops... they cost MONEY!
Add the fact that the school bus stops that are in place in Puna do get a lot more "wear & TEAR".... unless there is a very dedicated neighborhood group that oversees the installations.... & I think you can see why the county is not racing to get these in for the free service

(at times I feel that I must be one of only a few on Punaweb that has actually uses the bus service on a fairly regular basis & more than a couple of routes. One of the reasons we live where we do is that there was bus service nearby when we bought... anyone who moved into a place in the 1/2 decade could have made a decision... live near a bus stop or not, if that was a concern in where you wanted to live....)

The bus is going to get a 1$ fee shortly, that might help with stop markers. The problem with the bus is it's distance from house to stop, and no place for your vehicle to park when you go. Elsewhere park and rides are established to enhance ridership.
