HI Volcanoes National Park statement

I cannot believe the comment that this guy makes.... "

Orlando is interested in finding out what Hawaii Volcanoes National Park can do to become an environmental leader on the island and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

Volcano Park wants to "lower it's carbon footprint" - as opposed to what the volcano does on a daily basis? Is he going to cork the volcano's output?

You'd have to seek far and wide for a place that had a greater net effect combating AGW than HVNP.

We are aware, right, that volcanoes generally have a cooling influence on the climate, right?

Go Pele. You're saving our dumb arses.

That's good to know!

I've been googling it but I just can't find out - where is all that CO2 coming from in volcanoes?

Well they could consider going to shuttle buses like in Zion National Park and all of the cars are left in the parking lot but not sure if VNP might be to big to make that feasible, then of course all of the other "green" things like recyling, wind energy, etc. etc. Yep not much to do regarding Pele's daily fits.

Just remember, in the 70s, the Feds had a plan to spread coal dust on the polar caps to stop global cooling...

I fail to see the issue with the article. The volcano is what it is but why can the park not do what it can to be more environmentally friendly? Perhaps they want to add recycling or something. Every little bit helps.

If they haven't been recycling for several years the Super should be axed. I suppose they could go off grid easily enough. Plenty of sun and wind there and AC shouldn't be necessary, at least for cooling purposes. Other than that I don't see much they could do. I doubt the expense of electric vehicles would be worth the cost.

ok, ok i work up at the park. they do everything possible up there already, way ahead of the game. everything is recycled and enforced! every employee is encouraged to ride their bicycles, van pools are used. there has been talk of limiting vehicle traffic in the park, especially when people speed around during nene season. it is such a vast area and would be a loss for people to miss some of the sites, but the way the world seems to be going, the loss of respect for such a wonderful natural resource it will probably happen in our lifetime. it is a federal institution so the wheels turn slow.
