Are you sure you have a choice?

You can get dish anywhere in HPP. Cable is available to only about 1/3 of the park. Dish loses it's signal when it rains, cable doesn't. Cable includes internet as well as TV. Dish is only TV. Cable is more expensive than dish....

we have had dish for almost 8 years. For the last 6 months we cannot watch a show without it going off and on. I call the techs and get people in india. I can't understand them and they don't understand what i am trying to tell them.[xx(] We had a tech out here last week and he said a tree got too tall and was blocking the signal.[Sad!]

Yea, I had the tree thing happen back in Ga. You might also get a larger dish to help.

I would never have dish again if I had a choice. Plus you can't terminate the contract early, or at least I couldn't.

If you watch network shows, Dish runs everything on Pacific time so it's EARLY prime time and by 9 pm it's gone to infomercials, is how I remember it.

If you get the Dish local channel package, the major network shows are on Hawaii time, but Kathy is right about a lot of the cable networks being on Pacific. We get good reception on Dish except when it is raining very heavily off to the South of us. I am not talking about our usual trade showers, but exceptionally heavy rain. Cable is currently being installed in our section of HPP, but we will probably stick with Dish because of the lower cost and memories of horrid service with cable companies on the mainland.

Cheers,

Jerry is so right about the local package. It is the other cable channels that are off in time.

Jerry, I have to say that Oceanic's customer service here in Hawai'i is excellent. So good that I ended up switching my phone from Hawaii Telcom to them. Sometimes the phone lines get busy, if there's a problem, but they have a feature where they call you back when it's your turn so you don't have to hold.

Also they are very good at troubleshooting the DVR's over the phone. They can "see" everything going on with your box in the office, and can reset it from there, etc.. I don't think DISH can do anything remotely, but haven't had them since 2003 (and in 2007 with a short sublet I did).

I wasn't happy with DISH's service and the way they subcontract with a local company in such a way that the parent company blames the subcontractor and vice versa. In the one experience I had where I needed service this happened to me.

Part of my problem with DISH was that I moved. If you know you aren't going to move the contract isn't an issue. With cable it's easy to move. You just take your box with you.

Aloha, try Direct TV satelite, unless the Albezia's rule in your neighborhood. For internet connections try Verizon and their "A" card. They have in a kiosk at the mall. Contact Jeff Gray, he installed all the systems in our new Puna Community Medical Center. He's one savvy guy.

if there is an earthquake and most of the island loses power (like in oct 06) - cable in Hilo lost power - we didnt and so were lucky enough to be able to watch CNN and see what was going on with the earthquake.

Dish isn't affected by power outages unless the power at our house is out.

Cable is getting their feed off the sat right ?
