HB 444 Civil Unions
#91
I would be for that, but its just a patch... they need to write the law in such a way that civil unions will work for all "couples" over the age of 18. then stop giving out marriage licenses, and only give out the civil union stuff.

I just don't see why it's "all" not dropped by the state. What good does it do these days? Makes sure brothers and sisters don't marry? Like that matters these days.

Or maybe it is not such a dead subject yet after all. I ran across the article below which proposes to leave the current legal definition of marriage alone and propose civil unions for gay and heterosexual couples... How about that Jon?

I love this,

Our children and grandchildren will see through this. Thus my staircase... one step up, one back, two up and suddenly we're at the top of the staircase wondering why it took so long to get here!

My conception of a civil union is the same sex union, where do “our children and grandchildren come from?”
Answer:
MARRIAGE [a union between opposite sex]

You can never be a part of this no matter how much you get in everyone’s face. You choose your fate by living a derversive lifestyle, so be it, let it go, kay sara sara.

As it goes today most people don’t care if your gay or not, they only get upset when you cram this style of living down their throats.

It seems like there is about a half dozen out there attempting to make a issue out word definitions and only Jon standing in defense, and I may add doing a excellent job of it. So now go ahead and use your word definitions on me like, homophobic, gay basher, and I like this one, breeder.

So you’re saying that if a woman is incapable of bearing children, she should not be allowed to marry? My God!, what the heck has our society come to when we step back into the dark ages that a women’s right to marriage is as property or to be a walking talking baby factory? I know plenty of women who are married and are not capable of bearing children. I am horrified at just the mention of them being declared ineligible to get married because of their medical condition. What’s next, blacks can’t marry whites? Asians can’t marry Americans?

And what are we doing by denying civil unions to same sex couples? Is that not cramming a style of living down everyone’s throats? You do realize your statement is exactly what same sex union advocates have been saying all along.

Actually, from rereading all Jon’s post, I agree 100% with his position that government needs to get out of the business of marriage. Make it what all 50 states legally define and say it is, nothing but a legally binding contractual relationship. So civil unions would be the legal state license devoid of any political, sexual or religious baggage. The state outlines the required recognition accorded to legal civil unions.

So, if two people want a civil union, they get the license and appear before the clerk of the court or county, swear or affirm to the legal contractual requirements of this union, and get it filed. They are hitched, end of story. Make it all civil unions and be done with it.

It's been my experience that those who insist we "chose" our lifestyle are those who have made a choice against their true nature... a.k.a. gay people who CHOSE to live a heterosexual lifestyle. Does not make them straight but they made a choice to live a lie. How very sad. Those of us that are truly gay or truly straight simply don't see a choice. We know what we are.

The Lack - I find your comments offensive, predictable and tired. I am in no ones face and simply want some very basic rights for my boyfriend and I who have been in a relationship longer than the average heterosexual marriage even lasts. And yes despite my arguments with my friend Jon about the definition of marriage though history he is absolutely right that the government need only be in the civil union biz and leave marriage - whatever the hell it is - to the churches.

Peace out!

Umm... the true nature of man it to mate with as many women as possible and kill all competitors and male children, so I guess that most men don't chose to live their true nature huh.... [Smile] Or at least that is what Darwinism teaches us.

I am curious as to why you would give Tom the power to offend you. His opinion is as valid anyone else's. You do realize that the idea of the gay lifestyle is opposed by 90 of the human population.(my guesstimation) So even though Tom does not agree with gay marriage, he is not asking that all gays be killed, which is the view of the majority of the people of the world.

England and France have been very open to the gay lifestyle for years, but you might want to look what is happening there now. In the next 20 years I bet being gay will be a crime in both those counties and many more in Western Europe.

So you should not hate those who don't hate you and embrace those whom you have some common ground with.

Dude trust me I don't hate and I appreciate that you guys don't want to kill me... REALLY I DO!!

As far as letting Tom offend... You are just not ever going to get how comments like this hurt. I suppose I should just quietly hurt for my chosen lifestyle and not try to get in faces and fight for equal rights but it is not how I am wired buddy. I think it is good that I live in the time that I do because in other places in other times I likely would have been killed by now.

Your Western Europe prediction is um, interesting?

So let's get on with the embraces for commonalities! <<<HUGS>>> for Jon and Tom (and I didn't even try to cop a feel but I kissed you a little on the cheek) :-)

I'll bet you $100. I'm pretty sure I know what you're getting at - the Muslim influence - but really, it's being given way too much credit. Maybe it will happen one day, but certainly not in 20 years.

As for a lifestyle being crammed down someone's throat, I'm sure gay high school students would know something about that.

Blake, I guess I am hardened to people offending me. For as long as I can remember people have been telling me how I should live and think. I guess I learned not to let them effect me.

PaulW, If I am around in 20 years I will take your money...(not that $100 will be worth much in 20 years).
As for having in a lifestyle crammed down someone's throat in high school... Gays are not the only ones that deal with that. I know 4 gay people from high school, and trust me, they are no more messed up then the rest of the our class...

Blakeyboy1, talk about offensive comments, here you go comparing a homosexual relationship to a heterosexual marriage and say your not in anyone’s face. Well that offends me and yes you are in my face.

Blakeboy1 goes on:

The more noise the homosexual makes the more they are recognized. Take for instance the word “GAY” It has been crammed down the heterosexual’s gullets for over fifty years now.

USAGE- Gay is now a standard term for [homosexual] and is the term preferred by homosexual men to describe themselfs. As a result it is now very difficult to use gay in it’s earlier meaning [carefree] or [bright and showy] without arousing a sense of double entendre. Gay in it’s modern sense typically refers to men, lesbian being the standard term for homosexual women.

I think that women got the short end of this by being known a lesbians , they should be known as happy. Now all homosexuals can be called Gay and Happy people. If everyone homo was gay and happy we would never need a civil union bill.

Lack, just what is it you have against homosexuals? Why is it offensive to compare
a homosexual relationship to a hetero relationship? Why do you care how other people
choose to live their life?

And what is a "derversive lifestyle" anyway? My dictionary wants to know.
