I also find it very interesting that so many people give a crap about "Ranks" and how many posts people make... That Rob decided to crack down on the amount of information that some of the more prolific posters on punaweb were allowed to post.

Why do people care about "Ranks" when were all trying to share information? If I can only share 5 bits of information on average per day... then so be it.

But I do find a direct correlation between people who think "Rank" is important on a message board... and those that truly want to benefit the community.

It was a sad day when I was told that the information that I was blasting PW was considered too much information.

That's ok... When one door closes... many others have opened up.

Because of the decision to limit the posts on PW... MANY DOORS HAVE OPENED UP FOR ME ELSEwheres...

And I can only thank those that bitched and complained about me being too much on punaweb for these new found opportunities that have literally been handed to me... simply because people thought I was too much on PW and that I was posting to much here.

So be it.

My main point, however, is that I don't think someone's argument should be ignored just because they are anonymous. You can use the fact that they don't give their name in weighing your judgement, but it'd be wrong to think that an anonymous opinion is automatically worthless. There are good reasons for some to avoid giving out their identity, or at least not making it too easy for those less stable among us out there to find.

Totally agree. Having a screen name is the accepted norm for participating in most forums. It is not hiding behind anonymity. As one makes acquaintance with people, one can choose to share contact info and names via PM.

It is much safer.

There are psychos out there who will fixate on your job, contact your work, tell them lies, and all sorts of bizarre harassment. (Lawsuit is one I hadn't heard yet.) I know people who've gotten into real messes.

What IS important is that you operate through ONE screen name on a site and don't start playing with ghostnics, as that's a great way to lose all credibility.

Anyone who follows and comments on blogs know The Lack is Tom Lackey. I got stuck with The Lack when I was in seventh grade playing little league baseball. I was at bat in the last inning and we were tided at two all and had a man on first with one or two outs, I don’t remember. I hit a line drive to right field for a stand-up double and drove in the winning run. The game was being announced over a loud speaker and the commentator screamed, “holy cow the bottom of the ninth and The Lack drives one to right field winning the game, holy cow what a played The Lack is.” The name stuck with me ever since but what people didn’t realize is that the announcer was my uncle and he and my Dad laughed about that until they both passed.

Thru high school, city collage, and the Maritime Academy, people would say, see The Lack, go tell The Lack, ask The Lack, and so on, it just stuck so now I use it.

me, i'm not trying to hide behind my username. i picked it because of it's ties to the big island and it's the name of a rain for hilo or the sound the rain makes when it falls on the lehua blossom.

in several threads/posts, i've signed our real names and those who have met us in person know us as francine and renee except for one of the scuba members. he still refers either/both of us as kani-lehua. just like blake and lynn are referred to as the boys, we are often referred to as the girls.
