Next Governor of Hawaii
#1
I posted this word for word on the "other" Puna forum and wanted to present it her as well for discussion. Mahalo!

I think Damon and I first discussed Abercrombie and the 2010 Hawaii Governor around January on PunaWeb (yeah yeah I referenced that site LOL). Anyway at the time I said I had not seen anything particularly impressive about Abercrombie besides him not being Duke Aiona. At the time Damon mentioned him supporting gay marriage or civil unions. Granted that is good for me but I said I would need some time to watch and read and form a better opinion. I believe at the time I was throwing my hat behind a 3rd candidate that Dr. Weatherford was talking about.

Fast forward half a year or so. I have been subscribing to everything I can about Abercrombie and Aiona. I still do not like Aiona and Abercrombie has still done little more than not be Aiona.

I am so tired of voting for people because "at least they are not that guy". I have not seen anything from Abercrombie that is particularly inspiring. He seems rather old and tired and walks a sort of democratic line.

Anyone got anything to get me fired up about this guy (don't send me videos of speeches because he is not very charismatic). JON THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!! Woo me to the dark side dude! Seriously I may be voting in this election and want some more discussion about this.

Ambercrombie, might not be so supportive of gay issues. Our gay pride festival was a Joke...Ambercrombie came to talk to the mass's but only about 50 people were actually in the audience when he was introduced...I personally was not impressed, but I am rarely impressed with politicians.[8D] Would have given almost anything to have had my camera their that day when Ambercrombie was dwarfed standing next to a very large and tall Drag Queen, must have been a little intimidating for him...[Wink]

Abercrombie is a typical Hawaii Democratic machine politician who follows the party line, sometimes to the exclusion of independent thought. He may occasionally voice some support for gay issues, but his main focus is on keeping the unions and good old boys happy. As a gay person myself, I sometimes have to make the effort to look beyond the parochial, personal issues and examine the bigger picture. If we use the recent civil unions mess in the State Legislature as an example, we can see what the Democratic machine is really willing to do for us. Nothing. I would rather have someone who will at least challenge the mess that is the state government rather than someone who makes empty promises and then keeps the status quo, smiling all the while. If someone in the Democratic Party would step up and challenge the existing leadership like Ed Case did a few years ago, I might feel differently. What we see is the same old, same old. And I don't like Mufi, either. Ah, politics. FWIW, I consider myself a reform Democrat.

Cheers,
Jerry

Thanks for your response guys. Seems to be pretty much as I figured. I guess there is still time for another viable candidate to surface huh?
