Hurricane Carlos - Headed to Big Island?
#1
Any thoughts?

Some of the tracking info predicts a path South of the island and some say it could start to track North and hit one more islands.

NOAA forecast discussion says:
HURRICANE CARLOS IS FORECAST TO CROSS 140W INTO THE CENTRAL PACIFIC
BASIN ON WEDNESDAY EVENING. IT IS TOO EARLY TO SAY MUCH ABOUT THE
BEHAVIOR OF THE STORM AFTER THAT.

Sounds like we have to wait and see ...but thanks for starting the topic. I certainly hope we don't get hit!

judging from this wind speed model it looks like Carlos will peak in wind speed around wednesday and then diminish in intensity.

Let us pray the wind speeds stay low and the storm stays far away.

It's still too early to tell though.

El Nino' is warming up the pacific now and that's a concern for stronger storms.

We sure have had a wet summer here so far.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

Been watching it for a few days now. The thing to watch is how Carlos will do at about longitude 125 - 140. Models have the storm being reduced by wind shear removing the tops.

Keep your fingers crossed

10.4 N by 120.4 W as we type moving 270 degrees at 11 knots. (You can figure a degree = 60 miles or so at the equator.) We are in the mid 150's latitude or about 1800 miles as the crow flies from Carlos.

You guys are sweating it with it being 1800 miles away? Don't ever move to S. Fla. You would be in a continual state of panic half the year.
