Need a Screen Repaired: Recommendation?
#1
I have a screen...one lousy screen that needs to be repaired. Unfortunately, I don't think it is "stock". That is to say, it is a particular color (kind of a peach, if I remember). Does anyone know of anyone who repairs screens and screen frames (The frame is colored).

Is the SCREEN peach, or just the frame?

If it is normal screen material (ie, cloth fiberglass, nylon or metal - steel or aluminum or switching metals on an older copper screen) you should be able to get the repair at most of the hardware stores (Keaau Ace has repaired a couple of ours)

There is a screen door place in Hilo- Alumside on Kukia, around the corner from Walmart on the airport side (808)935-5485 that does custom screen work (not sure if even they would have a peach screen.... if the screen material is a peachy tone, & not painted & metal, it could be a copper... but much of the old copper screen I have seen here is greened copper) that may help you out with more custom work (we did get a quote from them, but our very standard windows made the Ace choice easy the 1st time...

BTW are you here now? if so, I do hope we get together sometime (It was soo fun the last time.... now if we can get the nene to cooperate again...)

I've done a lot of screen repairs and I went to Alumside, the one Carey recommended. They are very fair. This was where the screen frame was involved.
For simply replacing screen material in an aluminum frame, my son does it himself. You can buy a roll of screening. Pull the screen apart and replace with new screening cut to fit.
ETA I am curious about whether the screen is peach myself!

If it's a painted wood frame, you can match the paint by having a chip of it scanned, and get some more paint.

Screen frame, screen frame....and the frame is a peach color, although take that last with a grain of salt. The house is peachy and the frame is a lighter, but matching color. It is not, however, "frame"-colored. It is not aluminum colored. That's the problem. No, I am noton the island right now. Have been spending a LOT of time in New Orleans, feeling very conflicted. Paradise...or hell...the food is better in hell....the drinks are better in hell....the views are better in Paradise...the contractors are better in hell.....the architecture is nicer in hell.....the weather is better in Paradise...the snorkeling is better in Paradise....the doctors are better in Hell....I'll sort it out....but I can't do that today. I'll go crazy if I do! I'll think about it tomorrow! That's what I'll do! I'll think about it tomorrow.....

Good look sorting (I always come up with an unmatched pair whenever I try to sort things out..)
Sounds like the repair is a standard screen replacement, so good luck with that.

And just think, you may just need many more sorting trips.... New Orleans is its own special type of Paradise. Our goddaughter spent quite a few years there, met her beau, worked at their wonderful zoo & was very conflicted when her love was transferred away. She followed love, but still visits her magical escape often....

As in Ace Hardware? The frame of my screen is colored, not aluminum-colored.

Is the frame broken, or just the screen cloth? Cloth - hardware stores like Ace are a good, quick choice
If the frame is broken, is it wood or metal? Wood, most any handy man (Royall has a wonderful woodshop set-up & can probably fix or reframe)
If it is metal, is it enamel, epoxy, powder coated or anodized? The metal part would be a fairly easy thing for Alumside, & color matching would not be difficult for a spray painter, unless it is powder coated or anodized color...

OK... perhaps you are seeing how a very easy question can get really complicated.... hope this helps you... (some how this reminds me of your water catchment/well pump questions...)
