Target open today
#1
According to the Honolulu Advertiser...

Looks like Target in Kona opened this morning... for any of us Puna residents interested in doing a 2 hour drive to check it out.

Target had the VIP opening between 5:30PM and 8:30PM yesterday. It was only for invited guests but it seemed like half of the island attended. [Big Grin] Their official opening is on the 26th.

Target unoffically open at 8am this morning. Their hours are 8am-10pm Monday through Saturday...8am to 9pm Sunday.

"The store carries everything from beauty products to sporting goods, apparel, pet items, books, home decor, jewelry and accessories, electronics, CDs and movies, and Hawaiiana, as well as an expansive grocery section."

There's also a pharmacy, Starbucks, Target Cafe, Pizza Hut, photo department, wedding gift registry and guest services."

I was utterly impressed with how the store looked. Their electronics and grocery/consumables sections are much larger than either Wal-Mart or KMart. Target’s pricing seemed competitive with the other latter stores too. Thus it is a matter of time before one of these three stores is forced to close (most likely KMart).

The Hawaii Tribune Herald reported that a Target and Safeway will be built in Hilo, up from Walmart and across from Home Depot. Since we already have a Safeway (attached to Long's), I was wondering what the future holds for this property.

My teenage daughters were there early opening and were not impressed. Looks like there will be no calls to make trips to Target at our house.

Thank God.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I'm going over to Kona this morning for my monthly costco purchases. I'll check out Target while I'm there.

I agree with Robs daughters assessment. I wasn't impressed either.

Everything they sold was "noticably" more expensive than Walmart or Kmart for the same items. They did have a larger grocery area and a full liquor department....but again prices were quite high. The clothing was also more expensive but the quality "was" better than other superstores on the island. I will say though that the employees were really, really nice and helpful.

My opinion....I honestly don't think 2 Targets (let alone 1 target) will make it here on the Big Island given the state of our economy. Just 2 days after opening and at 11am this morning the parking lot was wide open.
